What does the § symbol on the dash mean?

I recently took my R56 to the dealer to have some warranty work done. I know the battery was disconnected and I had to reset some of the radio stations etc, but I noticed on the tach after starting that there was this symbol § after starting the car. It was in the red color. I went into the menu and was able to change the month and year associated with this symbol to a later date and the light went to the amber colour.

So in short, what does the § symbol mean? It was shown with an outline of the car like with most service notices.

Thank you

It is explained in your service manual.

I think it is the state inspection notification. Usually if that is not required in your state the dealer should have removed that option from the CBS or set the date way into the future (mine is at 2043).

Now if I am moving from a state that DOESN'T require it, to a state that DOES is it easy to reset, so I can have my remind me when the tax man needs to look at it?

Your MINI thinks that it needs a roadworthyness test, or that there is a low pressure weather cell nearby. Sorry, couldn't resist!

I see no reason to have the car tell me an inspection is needed when in all the states i have lived in the inspection sticker tells me when it need to be redone and i don't have to worry about anyone forgetting to reset a warning light. The states WILL NOT reset if for you.

Yea, I look at that stupid sticker every day. So much that it quickly becomes ignored. I let one expire by over a month once before I realized it. Thankfully I figured it out before the local popo did. Having the reminder is nice.
