Dealer just called, turns out it was a timing chain tensioner, Kinda suspected that. He told me that it was from dirty oil. I changed the oil last nov. and have not driven it much this winter. Also tensioner was changed last march. I am going to bring that up when I pick it up.

Still don't know why the tensioner would cause it to sporatically start or not unless there are teeth missing on the gears.
You mentioned the timing chain issue was fixed last March. Did they replace everything or just the adjusting bolt?
If just the adjusting bolt that would explain why it failed again.
Is this a Mini dealership working on your car?

Yes, Mini of Omaha, They covered the repair due to the tensioner being replaced last spring. I went to get it, and it wasn't done. it was still showing misfires. The tech was telling me that Mini is having them change the HPFP. I should be able to pick it up tomorrow. This is also covered under warrenty.

I mentioned it earlier, I used to live in Omaha. Worked at First Data Corp. for 20 yrs. Moved down here in 2002.
Anyway, good deal on the fix. The HPFP has an extended warranty of 10yr. 100K miles. I've never had a problem with mine (knock on wood),
Hopefully, everything will get ironed out and you'll be good to go.
