R56 Problems with 2012 Models?
@ 400 miles my car had a loud Sequel when you turned her off. Loud enough you could hear it with the stereo on. Its a weird and rare problem that has happened to people of all years. They replaced my water pump. Been good for over 4000 miles now. Loving it! Car is a early 2012 built in 10/2011.
Have 4000 miles on my 2012...no problems. Have also had it to norther VT for a good chill (~0 deg) no problems other than a little hunting of the idle for about a 10 sec period as it warms up and a stiff transmission.
Something that I don't understand is why the 2011s don't show what the '12s will be like
. It is the same car and same redesigned engine.
As for the Gen 2s being generally a problem...just read about a guy who just bought one with 142k on it. Not every Gen 2 is a problem car. Success stories are harder to find because it is hard to keep a post going that just says "another day and no problems, just out enjoying the car" than it is to have a post about "this is a piece of @#$%". Also people are more willing to complain than write something nice. So that is what you are going to see on places like NAM. I have seen plenty of posts on NAM that say "if you are worried about Minis, you should read posts about Hondas, Toyotas, etc and see the complaints they get". No car is going to be perfect. No matter what the car is, if you look hard enough, you will find problems.

Mini sounds like a tea kettle
So, I orginally posted on 1/22 saying that all was well with Zippy.. Well tonight when I pulled into the garage I heard a whistle sound like a tea kettle while idling. Only have 1100 happy motoring miles so I'm alittle sad that Zippy isn't feeling well.
Taking to the dealer tomorrow morning to see whats up. Hoping an easy fix cause I LOVE MY MINI

No issues with our '12 Cooper hatch. 3200 miles. It even drove over a snow covered median during the recent Seattle storms (honestly, it looked like a dang snowdrift) and got away with no damage.
Well really I have 2 problems that can't be fixed. My wife won't let Comet sleep in the spare room and I can't find an excuse to drive it when I am supposed to be working in the office.
Other than that we're good. Funny I used to hate driving.

LOL How many miles have you logged thus far?
Mine is an early 2012...2,200 miles picked up 09/2011. No problems here yet just some super annoying rattles I have done nothing about yet. I suspect they are at least partially due to the horrible roads here.
Just a little over 900. I have been resisting just driving it for no reason most of the time. I have thought about it alot. I want to just take it on drives, but the practicle side of me is resisting. Its the "Well gas is still over $3 and just driving is a waste of money arguement.
I enjoy driving it when it is necessary to drive. But I joined a MINI club and will go on drives with them. I used to hate my commute. Now I don't.

Wow. That is alot of driving. Of course from the 12/16 to 1/2 I was on Christmas vacation and I didn't drive anywhere. Do you take alot of long trips?
My commute is 80 mile round trip 5 days a week... I plan on logging about 15-18K a year.
60 miles 5 days a week for work. gf lives 15 miles away. and i go to LA which is 20 miles away at least once a week. i expect if things continue like this, which hopefully they wont, ill be one of the first to 100k lol.
I've got over 2500 miles on mine so far. Zero problems, except for one rattle that I caused. (Dropped a screwdriver bit down into the dash; got it out yesterday.) It's pretty rattle-y right after a cold start, but I think that's just the nature of the DFI (Direct Fuel Injected) engine.

I hope your commute isn't in bumper to bumper traffic.

That is some serious motoring!!
