R56 Which OBD scanner
Which OBD scanner
I searched around, and found that the mini's system is a bit more complex than I am used to. Modding my car, I know I am going to trip some codes, and even just have CEL's from parts that go wrong so I want something that can tell me what the code is, and clear it.
I am familiar, and would get a scangaugeII, however, I was seeing that this cannot clear all of the codes? Maybe I miss-understood, but if someone could clear this up.
I also saw the Baverian Technic system, which looks fantastic, but to be quite honest is a little above my needs, since if there is a major problem I will likely be taking it to the mechanic anyway. Is there a reason why I should get it, instead of a scangauge or any other cheaper OBD scanner?
Also if there are any other ones that would be better for my needs, please let me know. Thanks!

The Bavarian Tech is able to access ALL control modules within the vehicle, versus only powertrain with a generic OBDII scanner.
Since the car is connected together via a CAN-BUS system, tripping a fault code could occur in more than one area if a problem arises.
Being an old owner of a VAG-COM (VW / Audi / Porsche detailed scan-tool program), I can tell you it's absolutely worth it when modifying your own vehicle and doing home simple repairs.
With dealer hook-up's costing over $100+ each time, having a quality scanner / scan program worth the investment.

If you have a Garmin (certain Models) you can get what is called an HD Connector, link it to your Garmin and you have an OBD Reader, with the ability to Clear Codes too.

I just got a PLX Kiwi that will let me diagnose and reset CELs. It also allows me to add guages like Coolant Temp, Tach, etc onto my iPod so I can keep a check on any engine parameter I want in real time. Check it out.

I have the PLX Bluetooth as well, and I use an app called Torque. It will read all of the sensors connected to the ECM and you can put them all up on the display. I use it on a tablet, so it has lots of room. Check it out in the app store. The only drawback is that it is written for Europe, and much of the program is in metric. They have added updates to change many of the displays to English units for us Americans. It only reads and resets the ECM, so it won't reset any airbag, maintence reminders and such. Hope this helps.
