R56 Driving Excitiment Application for MINI Connect
Driving Excitiment Application for MINI Connect
Now this looks really cool and has lots of potential. Prior to this MINI connect was not even on my radar.
This particular application loaded into the car via your iPhone allows drivers to see the following:

- Lateral Gs
- Acceleration
- Coolant temp (finally!)
- Engine output
- RPM

From what I read last month it is. BMW/MINI has made it open to anyone who wants to make an app. That is how Pandora and now MOG are working with connect.

Tried it out, very cool. Would be awesome for the future for them to include other gauges as well
Interesting though that even though they state that with this version you no longer *need* to have the cradle to get Mission control to work, it still doesn't while using the Y cable for me...

Do you have your phone updated to IOS 5.0 or greater? It will not work unless it is. Do you have the correct Y cable? It should have 4 separated pieces in the audio plug. Like the Y cable in the top of the picture.

Spicy - I have the correct Y cable but will check on IOS version. In the past, installing apps would fail if you're not running the correct version
Achilles - Definitely more for fun but accuracy should be close no? Is it not pulling the data straight from the ODB II interface, akin to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDEaZ8MzMWs

Who needs a boost gauge? Mini supplys a gauge to show you how long you motor with your top down!

I know Mini is a "fun" car but come on... who the hell needs an hour meter letting them know how long they have driven with their top down.. that's just stupid.
They need to supply some real gauges... like temp, boost, etc.

The AI RPM readout updates at 10 Hz, too fast for a credible eyeball comparison with MINI Connect. I think they're at least in the ballpark.
I have coolant temp reading out on one of my two Aeroforce Interceptor gauges, which take their input off of the OBDII. I've noticed that the temp being reported by the MINI Connect is usually within a degree or two but the updates seem to lag the AI gauge by 2 to 4 seconds -- mostly noticed when warming up the engine from a cold start.
