Extended warranty or maintenance?

My car is approaching end of its factory warranty/maintenance coverage soon, my delimma is which extended coverage is worth it. I know extended warranty does not cover clutch (which is a major part), but pretty much everything else. On the other hand, extended maintenance does not cover engine/electronic failure, which one is worth it?

I can get third-party extended warranty the same price as extended maintenance from MINI directly, fellow MINI enthusiasts, what do you think? Or its not worth it at all.

I got my MINI CPO with extended warranty. Glad I had this because my engine went KAPUT a little over a month ago. Dealer replaced motor under warranty no questions asked. I guess it depends on the dealer too but they replaced the HPFP, water pump, and chain tensioner before engine went out. I'm not familiar with the maintenance warranty since mine ran out when i got the car but IMO you can probably do the maintenance yourself.

Good for you MiniBOL that you had extended warranty. Mine is 09 cooper S and I am worry about the turbo engine down the line, I am planning to keep the car as long as I can. The reason I am torn between the two extended package is the cost of clutch (which cover by maintenance) and the cost of engine (cover by warranty).

Although extended maintenance will cover clutch (I think), it will not cover the flywheel, which I believe is the major portion of the total cost. Just something to keep in mind.

Id rather pay for oil changes and brake pads rather than timing chain tensioners and water pumps.
