A tip on mounting the ecoroute. It plugs into the OBDII port just above the drivers left knee. There is a plug, a short 2" or 3" long cable, and then the ecoroute module. It hangs right in the way and hits your knee. I tried tucking it up into the dash, velcroing it out of the way, whatever, it always came loose and dropped down in the way. What worked is, Scotch double sided mounting tape and alcohol. Don't have any of the tape here to tell you the actual name, but it comes in a small coil, 1/2" wide, maybe a 1/16" thick, its white and has green and white peel off stuff on each side. Cover the back of the ecoroute module with several strips of the tape. The important part, wipe down under the dash where you are going to stick the ecoroute with rubbing alcohol, do it again. mount the unit. The material the MINI dash is made out of really likes to resist stuff sticking to it, I couldn't get velcro to stay attached, a couple of hours at the most. At first I thought it would be in the way there, but not at all, never hit it with my knee getting in or out. Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, all carry the tape.

if you order the craven nuvi gps kit, the 3.5 inch arm is the standard one that comes with it. however, if you ask, they'll send it with the 5 inch arm. with a 5 inch screen, it makes a difference.

Above is the i.Trec NUVI Sticky mount. With Nuvi 755T mounted below:
(I later moved this to center on that panel.)

Also an Excellent spot to toss an old road map when you are parked.

It has a 'double-ball' swivel so you can easily move it up and to the right and get best view through steering wheel.

Also used a Buss Mini 'Add-A-Line' to connect the Power/Traffic cable directly to a 'G' circuit that stays 'hot' for 20 minutes after stopping. I prefer it to remain on during short stops.

('G' see "Hot or Not" Sticky in electrical sub-forum)

Mine has the 3.5" arm and the 5" Nuvi fits perfect for me, tucked in about a 1/4" from the tach, just high enough that the steering wheel doesn't block my view of it, and it doesn't block the round air vent below it. A 5" arm would let you swing it up much higher in your field of vision, to keep it down low like mine is, the 5" arm would put the Nuvi partially in front of the speedometer.

A suction-cup mount on the speedometer works for me, since I seldom use the Nuvi, but want it firmly anchored, and easily removed, when I do.

I used the standard Mini Garmin mount to the left of the steering wheel, then built a matching mount arm for Sirius on the right:

Works great for me.

here's the Nuvi 2595 (5" screen) mounted with the cravenspeed gps kit and the 5" arm. it can sit low enough to not obstruct any of the windshield and wide enough to not be obstructed by the steering wheel or obstruct the speedometer.

Took some quick pics of my current GPS/phone setup:

I use a ProClip mount designed for the R56 MINI. It is completely removable in seconds but fits very snug - I don't even use any of the double sided tape included. On top of the mount is a ProClip adjustable iPhone4 holder with cable pass-through. This way I just slide in the phone - no cables to attach or remove. You can see I had to zip tie the MINI USB cable in place as it would tend to slip out on one side causing the head unit to switch back to the radio.

With this setup I have GPS directions playing through the head unit, I can play back iTunes music/podcasts with control via steering wheel controls... and I take calls through the MINI Bluetooth. When calls come through, the music is muted, but GPS direction playback continues to work.

For those of you who don't have USB integration, just aux-in, I do have an iPod/iPhone to Mini-USB + Line-Out adapter I am probably selling.

Do the Cravenspeed mounts require you to remove the tach from the steering column?

Yes. Remove the 2 screws connecting it to the column, then that allows you to move the tach so you can remove the screws holding the back cover on.

Yes, remove the 2 screws, then slide the tach towards the steering wheel a couple inches, then it will tip face down and you can mount the Craven bracket. You don't have disconect any wires from the tach or actually remove it from the car, just need to move it enough to get to the back of it. It only takes about 5 minutes.

Thanks!

I wish I'd known how easy it was to remove the tach when I built and installed the bracket for my ScanGauge. Oh well, the exercise was good for me, right?

Just completed installation of a Garmin 1490 LMT and OBD II using the Craven Speed "W" bracket in my 2007 MC Justa, per the discussion points/instructions in this thread.

Easy to do...

Works great!

Thanks to all contributors with a special shout-out to Pez D. Spenser.

Cheers and enjoy the season...

swapped out the cravenspeed mount for the kuda mount. with a 5" gps and a 5" extension arm, it just bounced too much for my liking.

as for install, it's just a few steps more than the cravenspeed mount. don't bother with the kuda instructions, they're garbage.

1. remove the tach
2. remove the dash trim (should pop right out with a good tug)
3. remove the 2 screws around the vent near the speedometer, one is to the bottom right and the other is on the upper left of the vent (T-20 screws)
4. there should now be enough give on the speedo to slide the tab on the kuda mount under the speedo housing near the front of the dash.
5. after sliding the tab under the housing, rotate the mount counterclockwise so the tab is "locked" under the speedo housing and slide the mount back (towards the windshield)
6. push down on the a/c vent to create a small gap and slide the second tab under the dash
7. put the screws back around the air vent, snap the dash trim back on, reinstall the tach

should take about 30 minutes
