I just passed my second week of ownership, LOVING IT!

Anyway, I live in the DC area where a "EZPass" or "Speed Pass" or whatever your area calls it is a must. My issue is it is SO UGLY stuck on my windshield. Wanted to know if there was any room under the cowl, where the wipers are to hide it?

Any other ideas? I have a vert, so I do not have any roof places to stash this ugly thing...

I am sure that the company which makes Colorado's makes yours... I just keep mine in the center console and it works fine! You are right, it just ruins the lines of the windscreen....

 

Where near DC do you actually need a speedpass other than the intercounty connector?

My solution is a sticky pad.

 

I leave it in the glovebox till I need it, then pull it out and hold it up to the windsheild when going through tolls. Problem solved

 

Yep.. Toll road, Greenway, and soon parts of 95 in VA.

I think they make one that mounts to the top of your front license plate.

 

Here they've replaced the transponder unit with a sticker that goes on your windshield. SO now we have three windshield stickers, inspection, registration and tolltag. I still have my old tolltags though I'll be mounting mine up somewhere soon. No rush as I don't use the toll roads often here though.

 

On gen1 cars folks were sticking them to their sunroof...worked fine for many.

 

Here they just changed to the sticky windshield label. The directions say to mount high on the windshield center. I mounted it low on the driver's side of the windshield bottom corner and it works great. If you have the box transponder... maybe paint it satin black and mount with black velcro strips at the same place I did mine.

If you have a sunroof then attach it to the front windshield glass. Should it come lose (ever) it will fall into the car.

 

I had the transponder in the 1st gen and have the sticker in the 2nd gen, in both the cases I had installed them along the inside front edge of the sunroof. No issues whatsover. I too hate the ugly looks, unfortunately in Houston the use of toll roads is a required survival tool.

 

They make license plate versions of the transponders. They attach to your front plate. I see them frequently in IL, so if IL has them, they must be available elsewhere!

 

We had the license plate ones in Florida, but I've never seen them here.

 

You could just do what I did... Just paint it black!

On a more related/on topic note, I put my E-Z Pass in my glove box and throw it on the dash when I get onto the one and only toll road in New York State. Otherwise I completely forget about it. I don't even have another set of the adhesive pads to mount in my MINI yet and when I get them, I'll probably decide against it. However if I was daily commuting on a toll road I'd just mount it to my sun roof since I never open it or look up there. Great thead btw, I was happy to read what others have done!

 

I hide it in the Hidden Compartment until needed!

 

Here is the Bay Area, it's called FastTrak and although you are supposed to have the transponder, if you go on their web site you can register your account number with license plates associated with the account. That way you can just drive thru the toll plaza even without the transponder and they'll bill your account when the cam spots your license plate.

So you don't even really need the transponder at all. Maybe your system has the same setup?

...and if the cam isn't working, then bonus, free ride. :D

 

NTTA has this as well. I had a motorcycle and had concealed the transponder under the plastics. The motorcycle was stolen from me and I monitored my account for some time and never saw it used. If I report it then I have to pay $25 to replace it. So I've just changed the registration to whatever my current motorcycle is and haven't had one on my bike in about five years.

 

I've always just stuck mine in my headliner near where my radar is. I've done this for years here in Houston and never had them miss it. Also, whenever I ride my ducati I just stick it in my trunk and it always still catches it (they can't see my license since it is at an angle, so I know the tag is working.)

 

For the occasional user, keeping in the glove box is fine, but for daily commuters passing through multiple tolls, it get's old getting the thing out, holding it up, putting it away. I had tried painting mine black so it would be more stealthy. In the summer, though, the EZ-Pass got all warped as it got extremely hot in the sun.

Now I just go on the EZ-Pass website and register my license plate with a car that REQUIRES a front tag device. It doesn't really matter what brand of car you register, only the class of car.

The front tag is fugly too, but not as bad as having the thing glued to your windscreen.
