Check Engine Light

Hey all, having a little issue with the Mini. Was driving out to LI last night and in the middle of the drive my check engine light came on. Took it to Auto Zone today to read the code and it came up as P2187. They didn't have Mini/BMW in the system but gave me VW's definition as: System too lean at idle bank 1. Probable cause: Low fuel pressure, Vacuum leak on engine, failed HO2S (heated oxygen sensor) (bank 1).

I'm bringing the car in for service this Friday so I'm going to have them take a look at it, but is it ok to drive if its running lean? I dont wan't to do any more damage to it, if this is bad enough as is.

I'm not quite sure what could be causing it. I've had the new intake for a few months now and haven't had any issue. I just installed a boost gauge yesterday, but I drove the car with the BSH direct dual boost tap for 2 days, with the hose just tied off in the car until I wired up the gauges and that didn't seem to be an issue. The only thing i did right before driving out to LI was disconnect the battery to change some wiring. I'm going to go down right now and check the fuses. maybe my add-a-circuit did something :/

So fuses look ok, but I did notice something. When I first turn on the car my boost gauge reads -20 after 30 seconds of the car being on all of a sudden it drops to -14 and I can hear a different tone coming from the engine.

Found the problem. Broken O-ring on the Inlet pipe into the BSH tap.

Anyone know how to reset the ECU to hopefully get the CEL off and fix A/F ratio so it doesn't run rich to compensate for an issue that wont exist?

if you leave the battery unplugged long enough it will reset the CEL

Perhaps Autozone will reset the CEL for you.

One suggestion... you should consider getting a scan tool. They are very handy.

Here's a good one and you can use it to scan live data, as well as reset your CEL...

...of course there are others.

Thanks mbu, that is going to be my next purchase; was thinking about doing a scangauge.

So I disconnected the battery and the CEL is still there after leaving it off for some time. I do think I fixed the issue though; do you think that with driving the car it will notice the correction and just turn off or is the CEL something that HAS to be reset manually?
