When I signed up for the beta, they asked if I had the latest firmware or else it would not work. I suggest that if there is a doubt, call them before you send in the unit....and while you're on the phone, ask them to add all the new codes as well....then it's definitely worth the pain.

I saw that.. My SG is a month old. I'd like to have the setting but the idea of sending it in with a month under its belt.

Well, mine is old enough as it didn't work...version 3.17.

Their web page says the upgrade is free if you bought it after 1/1/11 and can prove it, otherwise it is $25 (includes return shipment). I just printed the upgrade request form.

SoCal, what specific extra codes/functions will they "load" with the $25 update?

Is there a list of all the new codes somewhere?

Damn, can't believe they charge for a firmware upgrade. If there's no way to upgrade the SG by downloading a file it would be nice if they would upgrade the firmware for free minus shipping costs.

I don't have my receipt anymore since I've had it for so long.

See my earlier post on this thread for a list of new gauges....I can post the ones that work, but there are a few others still in work.....but if you don't have the firmware update they won't work. Remember, even if you just bought the unit, it may have been sitting on the shelf for months and won't have the latest firmware.

So 4.09c is a beta version of the firmware? Their website says that 4.02 is the latest, unless what's on their site is not accurate.

I believe the version that they will update to is 4.09 when you send it in (my understanding).

If they are in a period of rapid development, it may make sense to wait until they have completed all of what they can make work for the MINI, especially if they charge $25 every time you send it in.

Please keep us posted on this.

I am under the impression that there is no ECU oil pressure value available in pre 2011 cars such as mine. Can you confirm?

Thanks,

DOC

I've asked SG and they say the Oil Pressure is not available pre-2011, whether its because of the absence of a sensor or its not in the ECU, I don't know.....however if there were a sensor I'm sure the ECU would be able to monitor it.

I was told on another thread about the ScanGaugeII that the Mini only has an on-off switch for oil pressure and only indicates on the idiot light.

With that said, SoCal, your statement indicates that the 2011 and newer models (that would be the N18 engine, only, not the JCW?) has an actual oil pressure indication. Is that right? And are you working on the coding for that too (I didn't see that in your list)?

Personally I think this is fantastic that you are getting these codes out there. Leave it to Mini to not give us any useful gauges to go with that big fat Tach we have.

I plan to post the other codes this weekend for those that I know work....

Unfortunately I'm not working on the oil pressure code as there is no way I can verify it!! I have an 08 MCS and I'm working with SG to debug the codes that apply for 2007-2010 models.

But if someone would buy me a 2011 MCS......

Ok, my bad...If I had read your signature I would have known you would not be working on it. But, none the less it is interesting to hear that there might be a real oil pressure sensor in there on the newer models.

That's what confused me, I saw your sig and thought you had it working. Now I've just got to wait for the new JCW to arrive to try this. I'll have to get the SG updated, its got version 3.15.

I got my SGII from Amazon yesterday. Firmware was 4.06 . Easy install left of tach. Route cable behind knee panel and up behind tach. Got all basic gauges working in a few minutes. I have an 07 R56, so went to Scangauge website, and see that Mini data is for 2008+. The only thing I was really looking for to add was the Oil Temp and Pressure, but I had seen pressure may not be gauged at engine, but Temp would be nice with water temp. So hopefully SoCal will help add some more codes, and they will update site to 2007?

Disappointed, I had mine upgraded and they gave me 4.06 and it doesn't work. So I guess it is wait and see.

You "just" got the latest upgrade? And, what does not work? On which car?

Thanks,

Need to clarify. The ScanGauge works just fine for its regular functions. It was the coding for the oil temp didn't work. Looks like the beta firmware is needed to make those codes work.

Oil Temperature for version 4.06

I tried adding the EOT codes given by SoCal MCS in an earlier thread to my version 4.06 ScanGauge II. The inputs were accepted and the EOT was added but no temperature shows. My ScanGauge was updated just a few weeks ago to version 4.06. Since SoCal MCS is working on verifying the codes he may have a version that is not currently available to everyone. If anyone has updated their ScanGauge II to version 4.09c or higher please let us know it is available.

2011 MC PW/B ScanGauge II version 4.06
