Switched 12-volt power

I'm trying to hardwire my radar detector in a 2011 Mini. Where can I find a switched 12-volt power source on the driver's side, other than the cigarette lighter? Thanks!

Cigarette lighter is the "safest" place to get power from. The dealer will be less likely to deny any warranty related to electrical or battery problems.

And there is no key fob switched power in the overhead console. Only the delayed power circuit is up there for the sunroof.

Good point re: the dealer. Thanks for the heads up on the overhead!

If you're just concerned about the ugly cigarette lighter plug, you can easily hardwire your detector to the cigarette lighter socket. The socket just pulls out of the console giving you access to the wiring underneath.

Good idea, but I was looking for something closer to the left side of the footwell. Thanks for the cig lighter tip re: ease of accessibility — might have to go that route.

Not sure why you prefer the connection on the driver's side, but you might take a look at the DIY in the mod section for any driver's side options: How To Hardwire a Radar Detector.

The most popular methods are the overhead panel on the sunroof control and the fusebox in the passenger side foot well. Good luck & enjoy!

Thanks very much, OPC. I think I'll do as instructed in the DIY you suggested — very good article.
