R56 How do I get the horn to chirp when I lock the doors?
First, the whole point of the chirp is not to tell the world you have an alarm, its for you. Its not that loud anyway. If you press the lock button and there is no chirp, you know one of the doors or the trunk is slightly ajar. On the MINI, if you press the lock button twice, it only chirps once, but the second push of the lock button disables the internal motion sensor. If you park your MINI with the windows or sunroof cracked open to vent heat, the wind can set off your motion sensor, or if you take a ferrry across Puget Sound, the vibration of the boat will set off the motion sensor. My MINI and my 350Z both chirp, my Tacoma does not. I much prefer the chirp. edit- I also much prefer the MINI.

Hey Pez, i was on the ferry crossing Puget Sound for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was so struck by the beautiful views i didn't even lock my vehicle. Thats ok, it was a rented toyota.
I've got a 2009 MCS with the alarm package, and the chirp is from the alarm, not the horn. Thankfully, its a well modulated little chirp, not the full alarm activation. I've only heard that once, when I learned that reaching in the locked car with windows open activates an interior motion sensor I didn't know about. Holy crap does that car have a loud alarm! I try not to make the alarm go off, ever again.

Me too, my hearing is terrible, but I can hear the doors lock and any squeek in my car. Strange.
