Service

Hi, I have a 2010 Mini Base purchased new in June 2010. My question is what are the service intervals? Currently, miles are 11,000. Couple of weeks ago, the 'service' light came on so I took it to the dealer, but they said 'it was programmed wrong', reset it and said come back in the summer.

So what are the factory intervals? I could not see it in the manual. So far, with 11k miles my car never had anything done. Thanks

As far as things like oil changes, there is no set interval. MINI uses "condition based service" calculations, so the first oil change/service could be up around 20k miles. If you read your manual, you will find how to access the service menu so you can see what the computer thinks is "up next" (some are time based, some are mileage).

On your OCI, just be sure to maintain the proper level in between oil changes.

Condition based, or one year on oil change

+1 on this post. I don't follow the preceding ones. It is Condition Based Service (CBS) on later Mini's, but a default interval of one year if you don't meet the miles calculation of your on board system. Many S owners would do the oil more frequently, but less so probably with the Justa's.

ok, yeah i think what they must have meant. i doubt that Herb Chambers Mini (probably one of the largest Mini dealers in the country) would BS about an oil change. I just hate that there is no old fashion service books on BMW products and you have to go through this ridiculous CBS or whatever.

My only confusion is why did the guy reset my computer without doing anything and said come back few months later.

At 12 months my dealer did the oil change (free) but did not change any service settings.

Start doubting.
MINI service advisors vary widely in their knowledge and integrity. Just because it is a large dealer does not mean much.
You are much better off listening to the advice you get here than most SAs. I have had an SA tell me my 04 MCS is a turbo and that I should have the turbo changed out at 60k.
