R56 Ice pellets?? I think I'll leave my mini in the garage.
We had a bit of an ice/snow storm throughout the day today, and I just got home from work, about 15 miles away. I've been passing big 4WD SUVs that are spinning their tires and sliding all over the place. I was easily doing 60 mph on some of the barely plowed country roads.
This car is definitely not bad in the snow, maybe you guys just need better tires??

+1 on snow tires, they definitely do make a huge difference over the conti all seasons... I just haven't had time to go get a set and put em on.
I just got new tires on my MINI and they aren't doing a good as I had hoped in the snow. :/ The MINI is super fun in the snow when it doesn't feel like it's going to slide off the road... Need snow tires for next year.
Snow tires sound like the way to go then. Either that or a Countryman!
Hopefully I can get through the rest of this winter (surely its almost over!) with the shoes that are on it and then get some dedicated snow tread next fall. Then follow up with some 18" rims and performance tires for summer and switch them out at the change in seasons.

I ousted my 17" Conti runflats after the Dec 26 Blizzard and put on a set of 16" winter studless tires on some flat black wheels. My MINI was fresh out of the detail shop when the snow came. At first it hurt to see the salt, sand and crap all over (and under) my little guy, but my MINI doesn't seem to mind and he starts up reliably (even in the single digit temps encased in ice).
I've also been trying to get the salt washed off weekly, but I can't keep up with the weekly snow storms
. I'll keep trying to keep 'em clean and as soon as Spring arrives (can't be soon enough - geeeeez..), he'll get the total pampering hand wash, clay job, polish, shampooing and under chassis bathing he deserves!
I can say, that I've been more than impressed with my MINI's handling in the snow, slush and ice on these winter tires. It's a little monster with the right footwear!

I took delivery December 30th and have almost 2,500 miles on her already. Bought her as my daily driver. Threw some Conti Extreme DWS on her and have enjoyed driving in every inch of the rain, slush, snow, ice, sleet, ice pellets, etc. These tires are aboslutely the best non-snows I have ran in these conditions and I plan on leaving them on all year because they are pretty good in the dry as well. Supposed to last 40K miles but we'll see. I commute from North Bergen, NJ to Greenwich, CT every day and so far not one of these east coast storms this year has stopped me from heading out to work in the morning. I definitely cannot stand seeing her so dirty but its nothing a good detail can't take care of come Aprilish.
Mini in SNOW!!
I learned a Mini winter lesson today
We had a bit of an ice storm yesterday.
This morning, at 4AM, I started driving to work.
Pulled into my gas station to fill up (red light was on).
Found the filler cap VERY snugly iced shut.
Pouring a bit of gasoline on it didn't help.
Chipping the ice (it collects in the nicely sculpted ice recepticle under the gas cap) didn't help.
Spotted a McDonalds and bought a small coffee which (when splashed on the cap) DID help.
Note to self: keep fuel tank full whenever possible ahead of ice storms.
2nd Note to self: found 1st usefullness for McDonald's coffee...
