R56 Rear fog discovery on 2011 MCS
I just installed my new toggle switch ($9) and now just need to find someone in the Maryland/DC/Northern Virginia area that can do the programming. I found no reason to order the new switch panel and pay $103 for an icon (didn't make much sense to me as I know what that switch is for). I would rather give the money to someone on this forum to program instead of the Stealership. Please let me know if anyone would like to make the easy money and what your price is...

The dealer needs to to into ISTA/P and retrofit option $5AA for the rear fog light. (BMW refers to it as NSL standing for Nebelschlussleuchte in German). The IHK/IHKA module (controls the switches), the FRM (lighting) module, and the instrument cluster module (to warn you the bulb is out) all get changed during this process.
If your car is not running the same software version that the dealer has, it can take 4+ hours to complete as everything in the car gets updated to the latest version before they can process the retrofit.

Your in GA, so come by the shop we have all the rear fog light parts and switches in stock and can program it to work.
My shopping list needs to get finalized (Engine Torque Arm Mount Inserts, rear sway, rear fog enable and the blow off valve).
Just had my rear fogs, auto up with keyfob, double blink hazards and window operation after ignition off programmed.
I will post the info of who did the programming if anyone is interested in the north east.

Oh and by the way. For those of you who have NCS Expert and try to do the rear fog here is what he did.
First- just add VO $5AA into CAS and FRM module and default the car using NCS Expert.
Then- Go into IHK/IHKS module and then change the following string:
NSL_FUNKTION_SZM to AKTIV
That activates the switch that controls the rear fogs.
Hope that helped someone.

I hated the blank spot as well. I was able to order the Switch and Switch Cover. I installed it last night...
and love the complete look it now has.
Cover Part # 64-11-3-456-232 $88.89
Switch Part # 64-11-3-452-459 $8.87
I have an appointment on Tuesday to see if they can program them to work. We will see... stay tuned!

He didn't do any hardware or wiring changes. My 2011 came with the wiring and lights already installed but not programmed. He only charged me $50 for as many codes as I wanted (ex.Auto up with remote).
