R56 wiper blades are poop
clean the glass with bon-ami, that's how we prepped glass for testing wiper systems. doesn't harm the glass, leaves no residue, and removes any foreign material.
another winter problem on "open" designs is that ice can build up between the bows that form the wiper blade superstructure, when that happens it locks up and the rubber element doesn't contact the glass uniformly. the modern one piece blade designs don't have that problem, unfortunately not all cars ship with them. you still see "winter blades" being sold which are just a standard blade with a rubber boot surrounding it.

RJ - Wasn't serious
- Car has already been in service - PIAA's pretty hard to miss with the PIAA trademark blazzened on them......
If the OEM are Bosch - that explains it - tried Bosch Icons on my GMC truck - and other brands - found OEM last the longest for that rig......

Yea, so....... Do they work?
Think I may try the razor blade and Bon Ami others recommended......
I got some Goodyear wipers at Costco ($8.00 each) last week, they look really cool, their design fits the Mini perfectly and more importantly they work great! They're so good I went and bought another pair for my Jeep.
i was thinking about buying them but not sure about the quality. can you tell me what size did you buy for the mini - 18?
Yeah, they're 18". They really work great and look even better!
These new wipers (Goodyear) got a good workout today, lots of heavy rain! They're smooth, quiet, and wipe the windshield perfectly clean. Expensive ($8 each) but worth it if they last year or so.
I got Bosch Icons for my wipers. They have been on the car way too long but are still working awesomely. I found out that I can get one for the rear blade but, since i am thinking of deleting it I am not going to buy one.
I've been using the Rain-X Latitude Windshield Wipers and the Rain-X on my windshield. Every once in a while I will wipe the blades with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to get the road film off them. They last about a year, but they work well. I'm in NH and the driving can get pretty crumby especially at low temperatures.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Thanks for the heads up. I picked a pair this week at Costco at $7.99 each, 18" for the driver side and 19" for the passenger side. But living in Southern California, it could be weeks or months before I actually get to use them.
I ended up getting Anco for mine, they are just as much Poop as the factory ones. The ones on my car started falling apart after about a year of ownership. But that was through 2 winters. The passenger side always has a wide patch that the wipers miss, and it is irritating. Thinking of getting the Rain-X Latitude or PIAA blades before inspection.
I have the PIAA super silicone blades on all my cars. They may be expensive, but they are fantastic. In the Seattle area where I live they all get used a lot and they are light years better than the blades that come with the MINI. Plus the blade leaves a slight silicone layer on the windshield so that the Rain-X effect takes place to some extent.
