I did not do the install myself. I have a trusted mechanic do almost all of my modding work for me. He said the install was very easy.

We have a few different options:

Personally I recommend the Cravenspeed short shifter. It is adjustable, and has a great feel to it. Plus the adjustment is a simple ****, no screws like the other brand to have come loose.

My first mechanical change to my 2010 last spring was a "Helix" short shifter. It's cheap and all the installation is done under the car; lots of nuts and bolts to remove and replace but it wasn't too tough for even a nimrod like me. The shift **** stays at the same height but the throw from 1st to 2nd is shortened from 4" to 3" (making it the same as my old Miata).

Just going on 2 years. No problems. I am sure others that have had short shifters on longer can chime in here.

I have the Craven Speed short shifter and well cover. Its been installed for almost 2 years now. It has always been on the lowest setting. I love it. Its one of the best mods on my car. Check my signature as you can see this is just one of many, many mods done to my car. Also click on the link to my flickr site. There are many pics of the short shifter there.

Thanks for the info. I will be picking up the cravenspeed one soon. I will wait till I gt my invidia exhaust so I can do all the under car stuff at once.

The "shorter shift" is only in the amount the stick travels. The cables still travel the same distance, as does the shift fork, in order for the gears to mesh. As far as the trans is concerned, nothing has changed. Go ahead, you'll love the shorter throws!

I put a Helix short shifter in a couple of months ago. The only disadvantage is that it's not adjustable. But I think it shortens the throws enough to make a noticeable difference, but not so short that it makes the shifting notchy. And, it's only $45, so much cheaper than the SSK's that require a whole new shift lever. Overall, I'm very happy with my choice.

NM or Helix short shifter for the win. I've had my NM for six months, drive my MINI daily, and love it. Shorter stalk in the cabin or was not a preferred option.
Easy install. Buy the 'box' that NM sells also so the linkage isn't exposed to the elements if you live in a four season part of the country.

A lot of suppliers have the Helix short shifter. You can go to Helix directly too, helix13.com I think. They seem to be the same price everywhere. I also got the NM shift linkage box, although it's pretty expensive at $89. That's probably a good idea to use this (or modify your old one). The Helix instructions say to just throw your old box away since the new linkage interferes with it, but I didn't like that idea. There's too much chance of dirt getting into the linkage. Now I've got a stock box that I have no use for. Anyone interested in buying it?
