RAIN: Anyone have this problem?

It's been raining a lot out here. When the roof of my MCS is wet, and I open the driver side door, water pours down from the roof into the car, and on me.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yup - all the time. Doesn't take much rain for it to do that. The roof rain gutters are worthless. I like to keep my window down a crack in all weather but I can't unless I want to get wet. It better the wax job the more the rain accumulates and pours in.

Everyone has this problem.

It hasn't stopped raining here since Saturday, I've showed up to work with wet pants every day.

Really ? I have gutters all around and never had this with my 03'. Granted they are not like the ones on cars in the 70's and 80's but never had issues with water pouring in cracked windows or on top of me during egress.

My suggestion is have a sponge and towel at the ready.

They can engineer a car to do everything but drive itself with all the "neato" gizmos they put in the MINI but they can't engineer a rain gutted that actually takes away the water.

Depending on where you are, wait until you open your car with 8 inches of snow on your rood and you get a blizzard inside the cockpit!

I noticed this problem this morning. It poured last night and there was a ton of water on my roof. I went to roll the windows down to clear them and all this water poured in. I didn't get wet other than a few drops, but the door got some puddles. Then I went to clear the other side and noticed something on the window's edge. Thinking it was a leaf, I went to pick it up to throw it out the window and it was a SLUG Ugggghhhhhhh. Thankfully I now enjoy my drive to work so I quickly forgot about my misfortune. So gross though, I wasn't a happy camper

Yep

i believe its a design flaw

I also believe that there is some sort of drain hole at the top of the roof line where it meets the A pillar that can be cleaned out but havent been out to see if there is one their yet

No drain hole as far as I know.... and being from the Great NW, I would have found it. I believe there is a drain hole inside the sunroof opening for water that gets past the welts, but that is a whole different problem.

I usually run my finger along the gutter to remove the drips that are ready to drop. Not a perfect solution, but it gets rid of some of the water.

When I bought my car, the MA told me to do just that when getting into the car after it rains.

Yea, its a pain in the butt.

Isn't it comical that the Mini has this issue considering where the car is made??

I suspect that car gutters in general are being minimized or eliminated altogether for the sake of aerodynamics. Seems like most modern models don't even have them anymore.

i dont have the trouble with the drivers door, but whenever it rains, water gets trapped in the boot liner. Every time i open the boot after a rain it just drains water into the car.

If you have a look in the gutter above the A pillar you'll see very small drain holes.

I cleaned mine out with the straw from a WD40 can.

This has helped a little, but no great improvement.

The gutters are way to small any way. More form over function me thinks.

I'm a bit of a detailer, so when getting in the car during or after rain I get soaked.

On the subject of drain holes. On Uk cars being right hand drive, there is a drain hole on the left (passengers side in Uk) on the black plastic bit that the wipers are on.

This sometimes get bunged up to. I used a medium sized zip tie and just prodded it thro' until the water ran thro' the drain hole.

Same here

I have to blow on the roof to get the giant drops to combine and roll off, then wipe my finger along the gutter at the window, then get in QUICK

Still get wet from time to time

rain

I don't have that issue with my Clubman. The roof has a pretty nice lip around the entire perimeter to keep the water from spilling onto the driver. Instead, the water gets funneled to the front windshield and rear. Sorry! What a terrible design flaw . . .
