How many pounds of cargo can an unmodified 2008 Cooper S transport?

I assume it can handle, say, at least 1000 pounds easily (a driver and some well-fed passengers).

But at what point does adding even more weight become a risk?

On first glance, I can't find anything about cargo capacity in terms other than square feet.

Thanks.

2009 Mini Cooper S
Curb Weight, Ready for Travel, with all optional Extras
Manual transmission 2697 pounds
Automatic trans 2723 pounds

Approved Gross weight
Manual transmission 3494
Automatic Trans 3538

Approved front axle load manual trans 1918 pounds
Approved front axle load auto trans 1962

Approved rear axle load 1664 pounds
Approved roof load capacity 165 pounds

This is directly from the owner manual for a 2009 MINI Cooper S. I suspect the 2008 is close.

Pat

My wife just corrected me.
The MINI will hold 4 bags of groceries and a days worth of mail. No more.

Thanks! I spent 20 minutes doing Google searches for the answer before posting the question here, and it never occurred to me to look in my printed owner's manual. Sign of the times...

Well I hauled 14 rolls of sod with zero probs yesterday...they're not light either.

Behold the power of a tarp and a hellacious vaccuum!
