MotoringFile's latest article on the Countryman details a boatload of enhancements that will almost certainly all make it to the other '11 models, such as the new motor, new shift cables, completely new clutch assembly (a current problem area to be sure), timing chain problems cured, hugely-upgraded and hard drive-based nav system, etc. I think it would be nuts to spring for a '10 right now, unless some killer deal were scored.

Looking at the same decision. I would suggest, though, that if you are remotely considering getting Nav, then wait. A hard drive based system is way more responsive than a DVD-based counterpart.

Speaking of killer deals, what kind of deals are you guys and gals scoring these days?

I am thinking of selling/trading in my 09' Cooper w/ 39,XXX miles for a 10' Cooper S. I bought my car back in 08 when the gas prices dictated that MINIs needed to be sold at a premium. I remember getting $500 off the MINI and thinking that was the best deal ever.

Is it still like that?

I got my 2010 MCSa at dealer's invoice. I did all the negotiation on the phone. Went in and signed papers.

BTW, here's a link to the latest photos of the 2011. Notice the brake ducts in the lower front air dam.

Wow I really like that color. I'm guessing its replacing Dark Silver. I also love those new wheels. However I am not too fond of the additions to the front and rear bumper. The added silver accents make it look tacky. Looks like the reverse lights are now incorporated in the rear fogs below.

I don't really care for the brake ducts. If I were to get a 2011, one of the first things I'd do is to paint the duct trim black to match the rest of the grill.

IMO the cosmetic changes are all fluff.

Now the changes to the engine - that's another matter, but they have not been confirmed as of yet.

I think that if you read the article, you will find out that the chromed brake ducts and rear fog light trim are part of the chrome package. So, don't order the chrome package like I would do. With my future Mini JCW it will not have a chrome package. As a matter of fact, I've already gotten a couple of carbon fibre items for it. Hopefully, the rear hatch handle and door handles don't change.

Found some GREAT new pics of the 2011 model. Looks like I will be ordering one to replace my 2009 MCS that burnt up... I thought the orange colour would be a little more... orange. I wish MINI would produce a colour like VW's Snap Orange which was on the New Beetle. I LOVED that colour.

2011's

Hey, I kind of like this Orange, more of a Bronze really. I had thought about this Spice Orange to replace my Miata this Fall, but I really, really want a JCW and until I hear further, I don't think that this will be available on them. I think that we will be stuck with the Midnight Black, Pure or White Silver, Pepper White and the new Eclipse Gray, all with the Red Roof and Mirror color option. At least Mini finally is distinguishing a difference between the JCW and Mini S. Lots of nice changes in the refresh and the best is that you don't have to take the chrome on the brake ducts and rear fog lights. To me, they look hideous in chrome, but that only my opinion.

2011 Pics

I was on the fence about the 2011 refresh especially the chrome brake ducts (they are less noticeable without the chrome). But looking at the refreshed interior (looks like better quality materials), and new color options, i think I'm gonna wait. The black and red looks official!!

2011 Jcw

I was kind of on the fence, although in the back of my mind I, pretty much knew I would go the JCW route. After seeing that the Spice Orange was going with the R56, I thought that I might go the Mini S instead, especially after the improved engine with the Valvetronic was verified. But, that interior, especially, is killer in the JCW. The Anthracite, whatever that is, color in the speedometer and tach face, and the very much needed improvement in the plastic, and the radio and heat a/c adjustments, well Mini/BMW did their job, I could say for once.

Now, if we can only see what other color combinations for the JCW, although the Midnight Black body with red roof and mirrors looks awfully good.
It sounds like Mini still hasn't made up their minds as to whether they are going to make the JCW Aero package standard. I, still think that they could have added the Valvetronic and added a few horses, but that can be done on the aftermarket, too. Although this package looks very good to me. Even my wife likes the black/red look.

Late August, early September ordering for me.

Well, the LED taillights were flops. Just led light pipes for running lights. Big whop. :(

LED lights?

LED big whop? What's so bad about that? The other lights are halogen, so the taillights are LED, so what? The brake lights are pulsating lights, which to me is a great improvement. To me, that's better than having all LED which DON'T pulsate. Whatever.

Taillights

JustinGTP,

I just thought that I'd explain the LED and pulsating halogen taillights which you omitted. The halogen part came off a German site that had been translated.

But, in saying that, what really has bugged me, and it's not your fault really, is that many are the first to jump all over the changes made. Mini has done a pretty good job in the changes, in my opinion. Quite frankly, the taillights could very well have been left alone, but they decided to add some LED. What I like most about the interior changes, the upgraded plastics and color, the radio controls as well as the heat and a/c controls. Nicely done, again in my opinion. Could they have done more? Yes, probably, but remember this is just a refresh, the 3rd Generation is coming in 3 years, not now. And, that will be met with negativism probably, too.

Sorry for the rant, but I get sick and tired of "it's not good enough, they didn't do enough, the speedometer sucks, or is too big, or is in the wrong place" Enough, I guess. This wasn't met for you, but many others here. And in the end, I guess that I'm entitled to my opinion, too.
