MINI Warranty

Is there any way that you can download a copy of the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty? The website describes it in general terms but I would like to see the exact language.

Thanks.

Not unless someone scanned it and posted it somewhere. It's a complete other book. In synopsis, if you do anything, or anything breaks, they try to not cover it...lol

Well, I guess I'm just wondering how well Mini abides by the terms of its warranty. Given that Consumer Reports give the plain vanilla cooper an average reliability rating in its latest car issue, seems like odds are that there will be some sort of warranty work required during the first 4 years. What has been everybody's experience?

Sounds like you haven't bought one yet. Just go to a dealer and ask a salesman to copy the pages of interest from the warranty for you. A salesman will do just about anything before a sale.

I've had four different repairs completed under warranty. Never had a problem with the dealer not wanting to cover any of them (they actually did a goodwill on one of them as I had just tripped 50k miles).

You need to be aware that MINI (like most mfrs) only warrants a manual clutch and brake pads against defects. If you wear out the clutch early by slipping it, it won't be covered. Brake pads that wear out early are covered by the 3-year maintenance, assuming you haven't been riding them.

That's what I'm concerned about corcoranwtnet. I was reading up on some of the horror stories about the clutch in the first gen minis. That and the power steering pump. I assume the 2007 redesign fixed both those problems. The website emphasizes the new "Getrag" manual transmission which I assume is much more reliable.

re power steering: the 2G cars are a completely different all-electric system. much more reliable and less troublesome than the 1G.

re the clutches: still the same old Luk Gruppe clutches and flywheels, still the same old spotty-at-best reliability records. U will either get one that lasts forever or one that'll give U nightmares every 5K.

re the Getrags: since the American branch of the company filed for bankruptcy protection awhile back, their reliability record has taken a hit.

And a lot has to do with the dealer as well.

There is one perosn here on NAM that was told that the "leaking fog light housing" was not covered under warranty because the light bulb was taken out. The light bulb had nothing to do with the housing leaking so when they pushed the issue the dealer decided to cover it under warranty. The point is that the dealer should not have even questioned the validity of the warranty repair on the housing. But they did and caused a lot of grief for the customer.

Most dealers on on the right side and do the work as they should but there are a few dealers out there that make it a difficult as possible on the customer for warranty work.
