If the new engines are anywhere as good as the BMW inline 6, they should be good ones. From media information PDF file "The engines created by this new joint venture come with numerous features
carried over from BMW’s latest generation of straight-six gasoline power
units. Examples are fully variable valve drive, the volume flow-controlled oil
pump, single-belt drive of the engine’s ancillaries, individual coils, and
composite camshafts."

My current car is a 1998 BMW 323is and it just went over 300,000 miles. Still has the original clutch, engine has never been apart and uses no oil. Really amasing to me and no I don't baby it either.

Revised engines only available in Fall 2010 (USA)...

Looks like the revised engines won't hit the States until Fall 2010... But MY question is, what about Canada?! I'm guessing it'll be the same, but I'd like an official confirmation...

Me too. I've heard all sorts of power ratings, from the original, although some say that this is the European rating, of 184hp, then 182 for the states, then 179hp. Who knows? I still think that even though the rating for the JCW is 208, that if this is indeed, 184hp, that it might convince some not to go the JCW route me included. But this will definately kill the 189hp JCW dealer install. With CAI and upgraded exhaust, close to 200 should be accomplished. Now if they'd just include Brembo brakes for a reasonable amount. Any talk about the JCW Aero package being offered factory installed?

I guess it is definitive the US market is not getting new engines until Fall 2010.

Thanks for the link to the info!

Wow really? They're actually making stuff on the same line with different engines? Why would they do that to me? I blame the hippies

MINI USA is delaying the upgraded engines so you guys and gals in Canada might still get the upgraded engines. You should know in the next couple of weeks because March production cars will show up.

I had been sitting on the fence as to when I wanted to get a new MCS (currently have an '03) and when I heard about the new engines I went ahead and placed an order for a March build. Now that the engines are being delayed I'm wondering what options I have if I decide I want to wait until the fall refresh? The dealer already took my $1000 deposit. Am I out of luck?

In most States you are allowed a refund of your deposit if you have not taken delivery of a car. Check with your local consumer affairs department.
