Hey!

Hey guys,

I am just thinking about buying a 2010 mini cooper. I was wondering whats the avg price you got from your dealer? any discounts whatsoever? My dealer was telling me that at most, he can take 800 bucks off the msrp... which doesnt sound like a good deal to me..

I am thinking about the 2010 red/white mini copper with 6 speed auto. convience pkg, comfort pkg and bi-xenon headlights. What do you guys think?

I live in Vancouver, BC. Another dealer qtd me around 35k after everything and financing it at 1.9 %.

please helpp ? Thanks.

Welcome to NAM!

I unfortunately dont have a 2010, but I bought my 2009 the day after Christmas and had questions like you as well.

Now, it depends on the dealer you go to, but from what Ive read a majority of dealers will not negotiate pricing on the car itself. Mine simply said "if you dont want to pay the price for the car, we will sell it to someone else!" lol.

With the situations dealerships are in lately you may be able to nego. a little bit. I mostly got my deals on the accessories as part of my price (floor mats front and rear, clear bra and tint).

The price seems about right. I have a lot of accessories on mine, and before interest added mine was right around 29K.

Thanks! : )

I am still iffy considering buying a mini during this crappy snow weather. hows the mini in snow? dumb question lol..

i know, those dealers did have the attitude like that. =( I hate that.

hmm 29k seems like a much better deal than mine.. the second dealer said it would be 34k if i cash buy and it'd be around 35k after interest...
expensive little thing, i hope its worth it!

I bought mine around this time last year in Halifax, NS. These things really are great in the snow as long as you have the right set of tires. Living in vancouver, you should be able to get away with a good set of all seasons though. I'm actually in Vancouver right now for work, beautiful city! But considering the amount of snow you usually get in a year i don't think it'd be necessary to buy a set of dedicated winter tires.

As for the price, i bought a 09 MC manual with the comfort and convenience package, and after taxes and financing interest i was at $33k out the door.

I must say though, after owning this thing for a year, although i don't get to drive it nearly as much as i'd like to since i'm always travelling out west for work, one of the things i honestly look forward to most when i get home is driving my cooper again. It really is quite different from any other car out there! I went and test drove the new Genesis coupe the other day, and it just felt like a pig, seemed way too heavy in the turns and there was no feel to it. In the MINI i feel connected to the car and it communicates back to you very well through the feel of the steering, the clutch and through the seats.

Anyhow, i think the mini would be a great choice for around vancouver, since it's great for zipping in and out of traffic, and god knows there's enough of that here, plus you can drive maybe an hour to some really great twisties, and that's where the mini is really at home!

To answer your Winter question...

I live in Central New York which has one of the highest snow falls in the east.

I drive a 2005 MCS and the little thing is an animal!!! I started out running on the stock runflat tires and they werent horrible, but after getting 4 15" blizzaks with steel rims, I can honestly say its better than my dodge durango.

As for the money question, No matter what the price, you won't regret it. The mini is DEFINATLEY worth it.

I found both MINI Yaletown and MINI Richmond to be pretty firm on the MSRP of the car itself, but more than willing to throw in goodies or slash the price of options. MINI Yaletown gave us a good deal on an off-the-lot '08 Cooper--about the same as you, with $950 slashed off MSRP, but bonnet stripes, winter mats, and steel rims (for winter) thrown in. They were also able to take off some of the sting of the cold weather package when we didn't end up doing a trade-in (I think they discounted it $250). They "pleasantly surprised" us with some MINI swag that wasn't worth much but was nice nonetheless... umbrella, bag, hat.

$800 isn't great but it isn't horrible. Go back and forth a few times. Walk out come back in a week. Play the game. I got about $1000 off plus i was turing in my 07 lease 12 months early. I am sure i got screwed somehow on the deal but it looked good on paper.

As for the winter. I have a set of Blizzaks for mine. I live in northern NJ and drive to VT all the time for skiing. Mini w/snow tires ROCK. The all-season runflats are alright, but if your do any sort of regular driving on marginally plowed roads the snow tires are a life saver.

I think you'd have a better chance at negotiating on an '09 ... now's the time of year they're really trying to get rid of them to make room for the '10s. There are still a few around; have you considered having the dealer try to locate an '09 with your color and options? You never know. But if you're dead set on a '10 and you can't get them to budge any more on the price, you might be able to get them to throw in a few extras like floormats or bonnet stripes. It depends on the dealer, how badly they want to sell, and how badly you want to buy.

As for snow tires, I gotta give a big +1 to the Blizzaks. I don't have them on my MCS, but I did put them on a PT Cruiser, and they are absolutely phenomenal on snow and ice. The PT was worthless with all-seasons and anything more than an inch of snow on the road. With the Blizzaks, it would go through anything like it had AWD, including up my fairly steep driveway covered with ice. I really thought the guy at the tire store was giving me a line the way he was talking them up, but I was truly amazed the first time I had to put them to the test.

Okay! well, sounds like mini is the way to go considering you guys are all madly in love with it! i am sure i'll be too! :D I cant wait.. the delivery day would be on the 23rd of dec. =)

You guys all are mentioning about the Blizzaks snow tires.. How much are they approx?

I believe Tire Rack has Blizzaks for around $140 per tire for 16", 155 for 17".

I paid MSRP, so any discount you get sounds good to me!

I don't think you need snow tires in vancouver if you travel mostly on the highway or main roads, but some of those residential streets don't get plowed very often and you may have a hard time keeping traction (with heavy snow coverage). If you live in Vancouver suburbia or travel there, snow tires may be a good choice (from my time spent there) and blizzaks as everyone has already said, are the best.

Cool , thanks for the info guys! I am going to check out the blizzak tires ... maybe i'll consider buying them for next winter.. the dealers are saying the all seaons should be good if they are brand new for the first year lets hope its good enough for this winter.

hey Groogrux, did you get bi-xenon headlights with yours? sounds about the same as mine but i just dont have the sports pkg..

I am trying to get the dealer to give me the bonnet stripes thrown in for free atm.. the salesman is saying he'll think about it, and get back to me... considering i already have 500 as a "security deposite" .. he might do it to seal in the deal *fingers crossed*

Bi-Xenon lights are standard on Canadian MC and MCS hatchbacks.

general rule: dealer stock = discounts, ordered car = not so likely

if this is an ordered car, i'd take the $800 off msrp and feel pretty good.

if it's dealer stock, they can do better than $800
