Comfort access engine start delay?

Hello, I've searched but I could not get an answer.

If I push the engine start button with out actual the key fob in the slot (I mean just using comfort access feature) it seems around 1 sec (maybe 0.5 sec) delay to start engine. is that a normal?

Mine turns over right away (to the best of my memory) unless the clutch is not depresses it will go to Accessory. When you say .5 seconds that is not too much of a delay and there may need to be a conformation of the key in the car before starting. Are you sure you're not pushing the Start button at the same time you are starting to press the clutch?

Also I find the Comfort Access delay when locking the car.

Well, I think I need to check it tonight again. It's my wife's car (2010 MINI S auto) and yeah I did depress break pedal first then push the start button.

if I push the start button with inserting key fob into the slot, engine start right away and if I push the start button without inserting key fob into the slot, engine start a little delay. So probably it needs to be a confirmation of the key before starting.

Just drove mine and on both starts I detected little to no delay (<.25 second) in the Start button push and engine turnover. Could be slushboxes are just naturally slower.

yeah, I checked it again and I would say that delay less than 0.25 sec (using comfort access feature)

Comfort Access will have a slight delay without placing the key in the slot. The Comfort Access computer has to detect the key inside the vehicle with the interior antenna under the center console. Once it makes communication with the key, it will allow the engine to start. This communication is what causes the delay.

Someone is in a hurry.

Best to leave the engine running if you are the getaway driver for a bank heist.

I suspect that the delay time can vary as the communication systems polling for the fob cycles.

Today I noticed it may have been a little closer to .5 seconds. Still it's much faster that sans Comfort Access since it would obviously take more than 1 second to insert the fob and then push the Start button. The round fob (too big) and strange insert into the dash method is of course all about form/style over function anyway. I like Mercedes fob/method/style/convenience implementation much better.

yup, i've noticed a delay too. not so much starting the car, but using the door handle buttons to lock/unlock the car. Sometimes I wonder if I left my keys in the car since it takes so long.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think putting the key fob in the slot does anything for the cars with comfort access. My fob doesn't have any external connections and I can't see any contacts in the slot. Is there some black magic going on here?

I believe you are simi-correct and partially wrong. When you insert the fob there are no contacts to charge the fob (the contacts may also be a serial communication with the standard fob) so there is no direct connection. However when you insert the fob with CA the fob pushes the plate down and a switch is activated putting the car in Accessory mode (obviously doing a wireless conformation with the fob).
