Power Sideview Mirror Problems

Has anyone had an issue with the mirrors only folding halfway? It's happened a couple of times and I don't know what's causing it.

I have only had mine since may, but i use them everyday. I do not recall ever having an issue.

How often does it happen?
Weather conditions?
Time they stay folded up?

I've had it less than a month. Has happened twice. No correlation with weather. They stay folded halfway until I unfold and refold. I also noticed that the driver side mirror folds slower than the passenger side. I just hope this isn't a sign of badness ahead.

I had that happen once. When I was folding them out at speed, they didn't fully open, a quick re-tap to close and re-re-tap to open and they were fully opened.

k, so I totally realize that this is an old thread, but I was searching for stuff about the powerfolding mirrors and this came up, and was exactly what i was looking for, but no answers to it. So again, sorry to revive a dead thread (*shields self*) but I've noticed this too, my '11 cooper is 2 months old, and I do fold my mirrors up at least once a day which then also means i fold them down, and I've noticed that my drivers side one does fold up/down slower than the pass and was wondering if it was a sign that i was using it too frequently.

And while not an answer, I too find it timely. My 2008 never experienced this issue, but my 2010 started doing it a few months ago. I thought maybe it was due to changing gears while they were moving, but that didn't seem to be the case. I have not identified a pattern. I have noticed at times that they even seem to rotate too far inward.

As to the slower movement, I have just noticed this as well and the driver's mirror motor seems louder. Still under warranty, so on the (very short) list of things to have looked at when in for service.

Same thing happens to me. Once I started driving before they finished unfolding, then they stopped and I couldn't move them at all. Luckily I was going only around the corner before I could stop, turn off the car, and retry. They came back to life, but it definitely bugs me. Mine sometimes seem to rotate too far inward too.
