Oak steering wheel with comfort package and automatic transmission?

We just ordered a Cooper-S, and tried to include the "english oak multifunction steering wheel". The web configurator at miniusa.com wouldn't let me keep it with the comfort package, and the dealer told me she couldn't include it with an automatic transmission. (Yeah, I know, but the car is for my wife, and she wants an automatic...)

Does anyone know what's mutually exclusive with the wood wheel? Why would it not be usable with an automatic?

I've asked the dealer to follow up, but am not hopeful.

Thanks,
Heath

In early 2007, one could not at the wooden steering wheel in the Configurator, but the dealer could. Not sure why the automatic transmission would matter.

Likely just the fact that they have Oak ***** for the MT but not for the AT.

Actually, at least on the Clubman, the wood shift **** is available for the AT. See RadioFlyer's gallery and our brief conversation on the subject starting with this post:

Are you in US? if so, I think the Eng Oak dash trim package ordered along with the Oak steering wheel option includes a wood shift **** for the auto trans.

Sometimes the configurator is quirky--ask your MA---they can probably get it for you.

If memory serves me correct, the oak steering wheel isn't compatible with the auto transmission for the same reason you can't install the JCW steering wheels either with an auto, the incompatibilty with the paddle shifters. Something about their housings being different between manual and auto, and since MINI never made a second set of steering wheels with the housing to accomodate the paddle shifters, auto users get screwed outta both steering wheels.
