TPMS sensor reusable?

My wife damaged one of the wheels in her '08 MCS. I am shopping for a new wheel and I am pretty sure it does not come with TPMS sensor. Is the one in the damage wheel reusable? Do I need a set of new seals or a new valve?

I would expect it to be unless there's some visual damage to the sensor or if the trauma to the wheel was near the sensor.

I'm not sure how one would test it.

It looks like it is ok, since the damage is on the other side of the wheel and the sensor still correctly sends the pressure measured.

What would happen if you left the sensors off?

Left the sensors off? You mean take them out? I guess constant TPMS error.

It should be fine, just bring the new wheel to a tire shop and they'll swap everything over for you. You'll likely just need the tpms rebuild kit which you need every time you switch tires.

If you leave the sensors off you get a constant TPMS light on and a yellow caution on start up. The yellow triangle will also show constantly.

If you want to know if the sensor from the old wheel is still working hold it near the reciever (rear of the front wheel wells, front of the rear wheel wells). If you get a red TPMS error on startup then it's working correctly and reporting low pressure. If it's yellow it's not communicating.

My adventure swapping TPMS sensors between wheels is documented here.

will this work with sensors that have been dismounted from the rims? I am putting my friends OEM sensors on my new set of wheels and I wanted to make sure they are still functional before mounting / balancing the tires and spending the $

I bought a set of take off 16 inch wheels and tires from a Cooper S for my Cooper. Owner had removed the sensors for his aftermarket wheels. I installed them without them for the time being. The triangle comes up on start with a chime and then the idiot light in the cluster flashes then the triangle goes away and the idiot light goes to steady yellow. I dont notice it when driving. I will get the sensors put in at some point but if I could find a way to disable the warning lights I would just forget about them.
