Apples to oranges, but thats really selective information how about we mention MPGs, handeling, 0-60, quality or looks. Suzuki dont compare yourself to mini, stick with Kia and Scion.

Actually.....

...Unlike most suzuki's, the sx-4 gets pretty good marks from CU. It's not a mini, but, I think, a pretty good value given it's low price.

Mini is = success. No wonder Cadi & Suzk & more to come use it as propaganda (sales pitch, whatever you call it).

You know your doing something right when people copy you or compare themselves to you ...I'd take this as a compliment. Suzuki is looking at their $16k car and saying it compares to the $19k base Mini ...probably because they are roughly similar in size and close in price. I say go ahead compare.

We actually traded in the weekend we saw that commercial.
(last fall)

"Let's go dump off your POS [VW] tomorrow"

The commercial is a little misleading but all said
its a super nice car and a blast to drive.

We have the base model in both. (mini and SX4).
I can actually make an apples to apples comparison.

The mini is NICE inside, the SX4 bare, and a bit cheap.
Handling, the SX4 isn't even close. BUT, it sits up
so high and still has great handling.

If you're looking for a 4 door, 5 seatbelt car that is zippy
and fun to drive, look no more!

About 30 mpg city with an auto, too.

We're not worried about the quality ratings.
I don't know the whole story but evidently
suzuki was selling "rebadged dawoos made by GM"
and they didn't do so well. Suzukis made by suzuki
evidently hold up very well.

Suzuki SX4 has a bigger front badge than a Ferrari 599 GTB!

Suzuki SX4 - mightier than the Ferrari

When Suzuki USA ever decides to get off their lazy fat butts and bring over the Swift GT here, then they may have something much better to compete against the MINI.

Until then...

I really wonder how many MINI shoppers even have a Suzuki, ANY Suzuki on their shopping list. Seriously Suzuki, I think your marketing department shot itself in the foot! And the REAL MINI owners are laughing hysterically!

I don't think it's US they think are dumb ... more like the people who think a Mini is just cute but never actually drove one. Or something. But I think they're dumb, so there.

It's not that people really cross-shop the MINI and the SX4, or even the Escalade. The MINI is an aspirational car, a car people would like to own but for whatever reason don't think it would really fit their needs. It's seen as economical, sporty, fun, stylish, quirky, and who know what. By comparing your product to something it's not really competing against you can make your product look good without giving any free publicity to your direct competitors. If Suzuki were to compare their car to the Subaru Impreza, which might be a closer comparison given the AWD wagon aspects, then a lot of people who might not have thought of it before would go and look at the Subaru.
If MINI were to make an ad should they compare the MINI to say the Volkswagen GTI, or should they maybe show a MINI beating a Porsche Boxster down a twisty road, then pulling up to a store and hauling away more stuff than the Porsche could ever haul? Few would cross-shop the Porsche but a lot of us wouldn't mind having one in the driveway.

A few months back I drove my MCSm 60 miles to try an SX4. Once at the dealership, behind the wheel, I decided that the Suzuki wasn't even worth a test drive. Bad seats, bad driving position. Okay, back to the MINI and a pleasant 60 miles home. After two years of ownership, I'm still always looking for a reason to drive the MINI

Listen the SX4 is a nice car for the price, I would seriously consider it over a base imprezza or any cheap japanese econobox under 20K if thats what I wanted. But its just not in the same league as an MC, its completely different buyers, its a luxury hatch with it closest competitors being a golf /GTI, C30, maybe even an A3 depending on what options your getting. No one whos shopping for a MC is going to be cross shopping it with an SX4, that ad. agency should be fired immediately.

I guess the point of the commercial is that you can get more car for less money than a MINI. Can't see how that's a bad thing for Suzuki, unless of course the buyer actually decides to test-drive both. Interior fit and finish, highway/high speed stability of BMW-bred MINI vs Japanese econobox Suzuki, and overall refinement -- all no contest.

In concept they might be cross-shopped but in reality there is absolutely no comparison between the two.

Anyone really concerned about price shouldn't be looking at a Mini.

My favorite part is when they put it in 4 wheel drive to go through a pot hole?? Haha but actually I've started seeing a lot of these by where I live so Suzuki must be doing something right.
