Bottom line is, there is no comparision. And it shows you how pathetic and DESPERATE suzuki and caddy is to sell cars... On some level its a big compliment that they're targeting MINI...

Now, if only the MINI came with a cape...

These are ads guys. You really shouldn't take this stuff so seriously. Like you think ads should be honest and objective? Like the Mini ads aren't just as ridiculous?

you're right.. i remember that one commercial where the girl and the guy were on each sides of the MINI humping it / making orgasmic sounds.

But i still found it comical

MINI ads are comical and well thought out though... They don't try to compare...
Its just a question of orginality and creative thought if you ask me.

I mean honestly, the new cabrio commercials are wicked funny. Who doesn't love back of the head slaps and ninja vanish?!

While I was reading this thread, the SX4 commercial popped up on HLN.

How about this one:

The way I figure it, people who pay attention to ads like this just help keep the brand pure. I mean, do you really think if they bought MINIs they'd wave?

Yep. That commercial is fine and dandy, but you'll end up owning a Suzuki... tell that to your friends out loud!

I like that the Mini Cooper clan is a niche group of people who are gung-ho about their Mini's. People who end up owning an SX4 will probably never understand... until one of the groups Mini Cooper Ss blows by one on the street!

I think this guy says it best:

http://www.examiner.com/x-244-Automo...he-Mini-Cooper

Anyway 25 more horsepower? If they mean at the flywheel there is at least a 10 HP loss due to the additional drive for the rear axles. With only a 15HP edge at peak and what is likely not a very flat power curve I'd say it would be a close race. Now a Cooper S could really beat the snott SX4.

I've seen that ad maybe a dozen times now. In the same time period, how many MINI ads have I seen--print or tv?

Uh, let me think. Oh, I know. Zip. Nada. Zero. Any channel, any time period.

And sales are down only a fraction of the Suzuki's, while "costing thousands less." Hmmm

I can't wait until they start trying to race MCs with their 25 more horsepower. lol. And heaven help them if they don't know the difference between a justa and an S.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...take_road_test

5th paragraph: 7.7 second 0-60 for the base cooper.

I think that time may be optimistic, as I remember reading a car and driver article stating a time of 8.8 seconds. Car and driver always has faster times anyway.

http://www.caranddriver.com/buying_g...take_road_test

6th paragraph: 9.2 second 0-60. And 2762 pounds.

Edmunds had an 11, but they don't have 0-60 times for the base cooper, so I went to car and driver to get them both from the same source.

lulz Suzuki. Good job with your extra 25 horsepower. Oh, and they also give you and extra couple hundred pounds. That really is a better value now.

That first article is weird, and a little misleading. They start out talking about an S, then imply that they're going to test a Justa in the next few sentences. They quote 8.8 as the 0-60 time, yet the car pictured is an S. The mpg looks like that of an S, although actual observed mpg is often higher in the R56.

IF they truly want to talk about an S, their 0-60 times are wrong. I've always heard 6.6, and I found a couple of articles that said 6.2:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...r_s/index.html

And if they want to talk about a Justa, as is shown in the TV ad, the mpg figures are significantly higher, as are those of people who actually own one. And then again, the question of which YEAR comes up. For example, in this article a 2008 MINI is "discussed," but an older convertible is shown:

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/sp...I&model=Cooper

So, there are a lot of figures bandied about. The fact remains, someone who is into cars probably isn't going to be impressed by a Suzuki wearing a cape.

I noticed some discrepancies as well, but, I was in a bit of a rush to post and a bit too lazy to search any longer. Car and driver gets some interesting numbers I have noticed.

And the point you make is true. Anyone who know anything about cars would pick the mini, unless they were on a tight budget I suppose.

I cannot wait till some college kid around here drives up in his body-kitted SX4 with no exhaust and tries to race. I already have people at work saying I should have waited for the SX4. Wow.

The Suzuki SX4 doesn't handle like the MINI.
The Suzuki SX4 isn't as cool as the MINI.
The Suzuki SX4 doesn't have a bi-turbo engine.
The Suzuki SX4 doesn't attract as many girls as the MINI.
The Suzuki SX4 burns more fuel than the MINI.
The Suzuki SX4 is butt ugly!!!
To conclude...
The Suzuki SX4 better than the MINI???
I don't think so!!!!

You buy a MINI because you want to

You buy a Suzuki because you HAVE to
