Sunroof sunvisor

Has anyone had any luck finding a good, esthetic sunroof visor for the R56 sunroofs? It's getting sunny and my head is starting to fry!

I bought this one and sent it back. To me it just did not fit the window right. I was very dissapointed.

I have the same problem with the sunroof. I wish they had a solid cover.
(This primarily affects those of us who are hair impaired).
The answer... a baseball cap!

Stratmosphere covers work great and fit perfectly.

+1 on the fit. There is always a bit of light peeking through a rounded corner of the shade no matter which way you turn it. I am not big on attaching the shade with suction cups either but they appear to work okay. These also seem to generate a lot of heat in the interior the time that I tried them out.

Guess I'll just save them for a rainy day.

i wonder what the rationale behind the perforated sunshade is. i actually didn't notice this in my test drive, so was quite disappointed that there wasn't a solid cover.

That and the slot in the door pocket are the two big mysteries.

I would suggest some good 3M limo tint. You cant go wrong with that. Thats what I did and it blocks tons of light. I understand how it feel to be hair impaired on the top

Yeah, I would almost consider it a 'must have' on these cars.

do you mean you applied your own tint? is that something that is easy enough to do on a sunroof?

Not familiar with the performance of 3M, but Huper Optik is hard to beat.

The ones that you buy are way too expensive. An easier solution is get an old silvered cover for the front window for about 5.00 and cut out pieces to fit. They sill slide in their perfectly.

For $10-$20 you can get a baseball cap in just about any design you like. Very efficient, and you can change it out at, well, the drop of a hat.

I would think tining the sun roof would be easy to do your self since there are no curves or hard edges to cut. I just dont know if the film you can get at the auto store will be very good. When I got my main windows tinted I was told $60 a roof to tint with low light blocking but high heat blocking film. It would seem though I have not tried it that you could remove the factory roll up shade and then attach some room darkening window shade vinyl to it. I dont know if the result would be to thick to roll up. I just cant belive no one makes a comerical full blocking replacement for the stock shade. I am sure most sunroof owners would buy it.

Lots of really good ideas... I've got veeery light sensitive eyes and even with the shade closed and polarized lenses I'm still having a heck of a time with it... I love my sunroof, my eyes dont.

I was thinkin of making my own new shade but what a pain...
Think I may just get it tinted instead... Much better permanent solution.

Yes 5% limo tint (3m or Huper) is the way to go. No doubt about it.

One of the first things I did with my new MCS was get a ceramic 5% limo tint on the sunroof. Hasn't bothered me at all since.

We are just gearing up for summer here in southern Arizona, so the true test is just around the corner.

Didn't think Huper Optik made such a product; just their 30, 40, 50, or 60.

Hupers lowest is 20. Didnt check with him when I got the Mini done but I remember when he did my A3 (2005) he said he recomends not tinting sunroofs, and was saying the main reason was all the issues 1st gen minis were having with exploding sunroofs (A3 sunroof is similar). Thsi was comming from Art of Tint in NYC, probably one of the top tinters in the country. I think that might have changed since, I also know of no issues with titnted sunroofs on the R56 or the A3.

Now, I wouldnt get the sunroof tinted for the same reason I'm debating getting a roof graphic. The sunroof lets in so much light, it seems like such a waste to permenantly block that off. I might opt for the shade (probably Strat, they make great stuff) if I find the heat bothersome this summer.

Personally if I didn't tint the sunroof I wouldn't be able to drive the car......even when the sunroof is completely open (where my 5% tint does nothing) I can't see b/c the glare from the sun....

my father has 20% on his Mini sunroof and he wishes it was 5%

Exploding sunroof?! That's gotta be the funniest and most tragic thing I've ever heard...

Note to self... lol.
