R56 Gotta decide between Midnight Black & Dark Silver
Gotta decide between Midnight Black & Dark Silver
My JB/JB '05 MCS is now deceased, and I'm seriously thinking of a new R56 as a replacement.
I took a 90-mile drive over to my nearest dealer on Friday, just to see which colors would trip my trigger.
I have to say that the only two colors that I really go for are black and Dark Silver. Trouble is, the only Midnight Black that they had on the lot was a (dirty!) Clubman with a white roof and mirrors.
Between the dirt and the white distractions, I wasn't thrilled with it. But of course, that's not really fair; I need to see one that's cleaned, polished, and waxed.
Opinions? To those who have seen a CLEAN Midnight Black car up close, how do you think it compares to Jet Black?
Looking very closely, I could see the multi-colored metalflake bits; kind of resembles the BMW Cosmos Black that I had on my (also, now deceased) '99 M Roadster, but with several added colors to it.

It really got my attention, but I was hoping the Midnight Black would capture my heart!
Like a lot of folks, I love a clean shiny black car; and hate a dirty, swirl mark-covered black car. Fortunately, I somewhat enjoy the challenge of keeping it clean and shiny (except between December and March).
Midnight black owner here.
Here's some pictures. There's more in my gallery.
Indeed it's very hard to keep clean. I could see dust on it shortly after I wash the car. Although, that may be due to the spring weather here so there's lots of pollen in the air.
Midnight black requires an additional commitment for keeping it clean or the ability to overlook it. Personally, I love the color (or lack of) so it's worth the extra time to keep it clean.
Next up, I'm going to change out the rims for some black konig feathers. I think that will enhance the overall profile.
Props to dark silver too. You can't go wrong with that. I also like the new horizon blue.

Silver was great for looking clean nearly all the time; black was just the opposite. But when the black WAS clean, daaayyyuuummm it looked good!
I think you hit the nail on the head with the last statement. If it were me, if the car was going to be my daily driver then I would choose dark silver, and if it were going to be the weekend or special trip car then the black.
I drove my JB '05 every day this past winter (at least, to the coffee shop at "break time"
); most of the time, it looked pretty nasty from the road salt.
