R56 Well, I WAS a R56 owner...
Here's answers to a few questions:
The MC doesn't come with run-flats, just standard tires, hence the blow-out.
The only airbag that deployed was the driver's side in the wheel itself. I'm assuming this was due to the impact being dead-on with the front end and my having no passengers.
As far as what broke the sternum, there is some conjecture there. The ER doc thinks it was a combination of the force of the impact, (60-0 in like 0 feet,) the seatbelt, and possibly the airbag itself. We'll probably never know for sure though.
Thanks again for all the kind words, and especially for the tips on minimizing the discomfort. So far, Hydrocodone has been my friend, but I'll try the pillow idea mentioned, as coughing, sneezing, or having the hiccups really sucks right now!!!!!

You can sneeze through your mouth instead of your nose and that doesn't wrack your body as badly. Or you can put your tongue up against your front teeth if you feel a sneeze coming on and that can suppress the sneeze. Another trick I used was to carry a bottle of Ocean with me and if I felt that tickly feeling coming I just sprayed some up the nostrils and that seemed to stop the urge. It's a horrible feeling to get that urge with the resultant consequences.
I'm so sorry for you and for the MINI. I'm just happy you are here to talk about it. You know you have a whole family of MINI people behind you.
Oh no!! I am so sorry to hear about your accident!! Broken ribs/ sternums hurt sosooooooobad! Hang in there and maybe have fun sitting in front of the Mini USA configurator again,,, that will pass a few hours away for you!!
Glad to hear you're still mostly in one piece...and yes get the S for Mini Deux!
That trick worked equally well when I had my gallbladder removed in 1999. It is also coming in handy right now. I woke to some discomfort in my lower abdomen Wed. By that evening I was in the ER and had my appendix removed Thurs morning.
I'm glad you're alive, and wish you luck with the insurance co. on the gap stuff!
Agreed. It breaks my heart.

It's not the MC that doesn't come w/ run-flats but the 15" wheels. My MC has 16" wheels and has run flats (unfortunately IMO)
