They do a lot of good on the front. On the back... they just look cute. The front flaps keep you from getting the dirt streak that goes down the side of the car even when there hasn't been rain or wet roads for weeks.. Never understood how I got that streak and I was so glad when I got the flaps on because it hasn't come back.

Was at the dealership today and saw a MCS that had Clear Mask for $995. What seemed odd was it was on the entire front end (bumper, between the headlights) and covered then all of about 75% of the windshield going from the front and then back to the windshield. Not sure why it didn't cover the entire hood though.

Where did you get yours or did you get it when you ordered your car?

Get it. Not a big fan of the invisishield that most dealers install though as the product yellows. I have 3m rock shield and I love this stuff. It saved me from having to have the bonnet on my car airbrushed after someone took some sort of hard object and smacked the bonnet at a casino.

Dealership. I bought Viola off the lot. She was perfect, everything I wanted in the car that was already there on the lot, and she had been driven a bit as the dealer demo, so I wasn't going to get surprised on the 400 mile drive home. The only thing about her that was not as I wanted it, was the color. Viola is my second silver car, and I didn't want to do the same color twice in my cars, but... PS has definitely grown on me and now I love it.

What portion of the front end is covered with the Clear Mask?

From the very bottom (area around the foglights and stuff) to about three inches behind the top of the headlights.

I noticed the same thing on one at the local dealership.

Anyone know if there is the option to do the entire hood? Sure seems silly to leave about a 1/3 of it uncovered and it makes the line more noticeable.

I ran a search in the Interior/Exterior Forum and found a thread from girlcavity who had the entire hood done but from an installer not the dealership.

Going to a 3rd party to get a clear bra all the way back to the windshield seems to be a popular thing. I seem to remember someone mentioning their installer had recently covered an entire Ferrari with the stuff.

Think that is the way that I am going.

I don't see the point of only doing 3/4 of the hood plus there is then a line going across your entire hood.

An MA explained it to me as the relatively vertical front of the MINI catches a lot more of the road debris (and more of the resulting chips in the paint) than areas further up on the hood. So what they cover with the 3/4 bra is just the high-risk areas. He also suggested getting the mirror caps done, as they also tend to catch debris on the bottoms which face the road.

Yes, that is correct the nose is most prone as would be the case with most cars, but figure if you are doing 3/4 of it, better off doing the entire thing; also would prevent from it be obvious with the line going across the hood.

Just keep in mind to do the entire hood would run approximately $280 more not including the additional labor charge then just the extended hood coverage.

I dont know where y're getting the 3/4 number but I had the full cb installed by my dealer and it covers only to the scoop, about 1/4 of the bonnet, if that. The line is really no big thing. The dealer installed it perfectly so it blends well out in both directions from the scoop to the headlight bezels (my car is Chili Red.)

however I highly suggest getting the bumper cover cb'd (where the fog lites are) because my R53 took a lot of damage down there. On my new car I even had the dealer cb the fog lites, because they are prone to road damage (and not covered by warranty.)

Beyond that?? A brief but necessary rant: IMO covering the whole bonnet is a real creepy, **** form of protective overkill. And anyone that'd have their whole car covered like that is completely bonkers, I dont care if it's a KIA or a Veyron. Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, not protected like some mobile Fort Knox

Getting the 3/4 number from the one that I saw last weekend at the dealership that the dealer had done. It covered all, but about a 1/4 of the hood near the windshield.

So it's covered from the wiper nozzles forward?? That's still overkill. most possible damage will be from the scoop forward, that's what should be covered.

Great thread since I'm going through the same issues - I just go to order and be done with changing the options several times a day.

On the armrest - one of the appealing features, to me, is that it says the iPod, MP3 player can be hooked up there rather than in compartment. Sounds to me as a benefit that I assume you wouldn't get if you ordered and installed European afterwords.

Sun roof - does it take up head room. I've heard that some take an inch or two. I think I've opened the one in my BMW once in three years.

Again thanks for all the good info.

Everything looks great, but I would skip sirius and go for the in dash cd changer instead. The sirius/xm merger didn't do either company any good. Sound quality went into the toilet on both ends, and station diversity dropped by half. Sirius, IMO, is now only good for Howard Stern. If you want music... buy CDs or get an iPod.

Thought about this, but after having XM for the past couple of years, it is only I really listen to in the car. Haven't used CD in a while and using my iPod only for the gym.

Yeah, but XM is now owned by Sirius and Sirius took all the cool XM Stations like Lucy, Ethel and Big Tracks off line and replaced them with crap things like the all 80's hair bands all the time station. We've pretty much quit using our XM now and will be canceling our subscription when it comes up for renewal.

You will also be disappointed at the drastic difference in sound quality between XM and Sirius. Sirius really does not sound as nice as XM did.

Sorry to hear; guess it all depends on the kind of music, news, etc. you like to listen to in the car.
