MINI Cooper D

I ordered my first time Mini a few weeks ago and I refrained from asking the salesperson if it was possible to order a diesel like the folks in europe enjoy because I new it was not possible. It looks like the folks up north in Canada may have it available to them soon. I viewed the Mini UK. site and the Mini Cooper D apparentley gets close to 900 miles per tank and even though diesel in the U.S.A. is about a buck higher than unleaded I think you still would come out ahead and all that torque would be nice also.

It is possible that Mini is selling high volumes of Mini's in the USA and it really isn't neccessary to go through the trouble of meeting our emissions for diesels like VW, Mercedes have and Honda soon will.

Mini USA told me that they have no plans to sell diesel versions in the US. I don't get it. The MiniD would be able to compete on mileage with the Prius. I think they would open up an entirely new market with high mileage diesel products.

The diesel engine is a much better value (long term) than any of the current hybrid technologies. Mileage is often comparable. Torque is better. And, you won't incur a huge cost down the road to replace all the batteries.

Yes, diesel fuel is more expensive (only because of taxes). A new energy policy could reduce taxes on diesel and increase taxes on regular gas. That would put diesel on a level playing field with regular gas.

You can thank the Democraps and Kalafornians for the lack of small diesel cars.

What does California have to do with it? If it was just California the Diesels would be sold everywhere but California. There are plenty of 49 state smog certified cars that can't be sold in California with out modification.

Some of us Democraps wonder how we stymied diesels through all of the Recambrian legislatures.

Back to the subject at hand...

Fifth Gear did a comparison between the justaCooper and a MCD. Quite interesting.
