tire vibration, car is 1 day old

I picked my 2009 MCS up yesterday. I didn't notice this vibration during the hour drive home, so it was either my overexcitement or it just wasn't there.

It is most noticeable at low speeds, and tends to become mostly unnoticeable at 40+ mph. The feeling is similar to an unbalanced tire, and I'm hoping that's all it is. Just wanted to know if there's any common problem that these symptoms describe for brand new cars.

I contacted my MA. Their service department can't do anything til Monday. If this is just an unbalanced tire, is there much risk in driving the car under normal conditions until they can check it out?

If you threw a weight on one of the tires, that could cause it to vibrate. Take a look at all the rims and see if you can tell if this happened. I have web spoke rims and the weights are visible through the "web" openings on a flat part of the rim. I noticed I had three of four on each tire, but yours may be different. Driving on it shouldn't hurt anything as long as its not severe and you don't do it too long. Definitely take it in to get checked out. Sorry to hear about this, but I bet it will get corrected!

Make sure all the lug bolts are tight. I know it sounds too easy, but hey, you never know...

I recently had a similar problem. Ended up, there was a large bolt screw with washer puncturing one of my tires. More noticeable during lower speeds & with general road noise, less noticeable during higher speeds. If balance weights are all intact & lug bolts are all tights, definitely check all tire surfaces for nail or other metalic objects.

well it may be silly to kick this back to the 1st page, but i just wanted to let people know that even a 1/4 ounce imbalance on both front tires can definitely be felt! my local tire place rebalanced them and now all is well. since the nearest MINI dealership is an hour away, they offered to reimburse me if i decided to go to a local place. glad to have that taken care of. now i can enjoy this car without worries (hopefully).

Hi MINIDivision,

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have been getting no response from the OL contact. What is the true story on getting a jack and tools with the 09 MCS. This board is all over the map saying yes and no.

Thanks,
Jim

What my MA said when I picked the car up is that there is a bulletin about a range of VINs that did not receive the jack and tools. BMW will be sending these in packages to either the dealerships or directly to the customers. He assured me that I will be receiving it soon. Your MA may tell you a different story though, so who knows?
