Some help with my trunk please!

So I've searched the forum, and havent found anyone with my problem... I've seen the "peoples trunk popping open while driving" but not mine.

This morning it was raining, and as i got in the car in the rain, my dash told me the trunk was open, so i went to close it. [im assuming it was open overnight, though i noticed my doors were also unlocked (which is rare for me to forget to lock them).... unless they dont lock when the trunk isnt closed fully? orrr, maybe the rain (like other people's trunk problems) caused the electrical comfort access to pop the trunk open, and also unlocking my doors?????) anyhow!

later in the afternoon rain cleared and I went to get something out of my trunk. this time i noticed when i close it, it doesnt close firmly, it still jiggles, even tho i cant lift it back up anymore (though this still causses the dash to say trunk not closed). I tried closing with a bit more force, and yet it still doesnt close all the way. ITs not unless i SLAM the trunk shut, like overly excessive force, will it then close firmly, but then the body panels dont match up from the trunk to the side where the tail lights are.

Then, opening it again, I investigated to make sure nothing was in the way, but noticed that the locking mechanism (under the plastic panels on the car, not on the trunk lid), the whole part moved around freely, and could be shifted left and right within the confinements of the plastic housing it was under/in... I'm not talking about the little latch that locks it, but the whole metal piece around it too... Does anyone else's R56 trunk locking mechanism also move around freely?? I have a feeling this may be causing the issue.... Any ideas??

Thanks in advance!
-Erik

try adjusting the rubber bump stops on both ends. it should be obvious with the hatch open. they screw in or out. try screwing them in a little.

doh. I got it. I pulled up the two little plastic circle pieces... and found two torx screws.... repositioned the latch and tightened, voila. all better.
phew. was freakin out about that.
