It's a standard feature if you have a manual.

It is in front of the gear lever.

Dude. This is North American Motoring. If you are motoring in Europe, ask the guys at MINI2.

Not standard (Manual or Auto) in the 'Northern' part of North America either (Canada).

AFAIK Canadian MINI's must order a 'Package' to get a 'Sport Button' (It's not even a stand-alone option).

What I find that happens when I turn the Sport mode on is that steering gets tighter and more precise and that acceleration is 100 times better.

I went on the Mini web sites for the UK & Portugal and on both sites the sport button is listed as standard. In Portugal they call it the overboost button but it does not give you increased turbo boost but it does bring the torque up to 280 Nm, therefore giving you better acceleration.

Not cool!

He might be from Europe but he IS a fellow motorer. There are threads for European Mini owners on NAM with people who will be glad to help.

By the way, I live in New Jersey but I'm from Portugal.

The sport button is standard in Canada as well, at least it is on the S. As are Bi-Xenon headlamps, unlike in the U.S.

On the non-S Cooper, not standard in Canada. So the original poster's question will be interesting to some NA readers.

But as usual whenever the question comes up, they can expect more discussion of the legitimacy of the question than attempts to answer it.

And day time running lights, right? There's a REALLLLLY good reason for both. I think it should be a law in the US. HID/Xenons standard, and DRLs. More cars are using the ellipsoidal pod for their headlight. It isn't difficult to convert after that to bi/xenon or HID.

Sorry... just a statement... I am from the UK, and most cars there, have Xenons and drls.

and it's not cool to disrespect the guy wanting to know. I'm sure someone here knows how to add the button, without having to go to a different forum right? It's basically the same principle, as long as he has a few packages, required to make sport mode work. And some technical / engineering knowhow with a dremel tool hehe.

I agree on the HID/Xenons being standard equipment.

As for DRLs, automakers have been required by law since the late 90's to equip every car sold in the U.S. with DRLs, which they do, but there is no law requiring drivers to have them on while driving. You can turn them off permanently in most cars, like our MINIs, but there are some cars, like my parents Chevy Trailblazer, in which they default back to on everytime you start/restart the engine.

In the same boat here...

I asked my MA about adding the sport button - I'm in Canada with an R56 non-S and no sport package (unfortunately the ONLY way to get the button here). He claims there is no way to retrofit this feature outside of the factory.

I even took a wild shot in the dark and rewired my DSC-disable button to the Sport button input on the computer - in the vain hope that the programming was still there for it and just the wiring and button was missing. No dice - pushing my new "Sport" button does nothing.

I've left it wired this way in case I happen to have my vehicle in for service at the dealer. I'll ask the service tech to go into the "Retrofit" screen on the BMW GT1 diagnostic system and see if maybe there actually is a "Add sport button" option.

Success!!

Well, after almost 2-1/2 years since posting to this thread, I can finally confirm that it *IS* possible to add the Sport Button option, but forget about getting the dealer to help you. In fact I did it myself using NCS Expert, a $60 CAN-D cable and many, many hours of trial and error.

If anyone is interested, checked out the NCS Expert threads for the How-To's.

Funny! I was just going to post that I bet you can do with NCS by adding it to the VO as I know that is an option as long as you have installed the button itself. Awesome!! I am glad you got that working, it is a great button.
