Yeah, I got that link in an email, too. Typical MINI weirdness. (Can you imagine getting this from Chevy about an Aveo?)

Since you asked, the Aveo ranked 90 places below the Mini hardtop in the carfun footprint rankings.

Imagine you just graduated from college with a degree in advertising. You land a job at MINI.
When do you actually have to start working for a living?

Thanks. The Redding In-N-Out, the farthest one north, must be used to a lot of burgers packaged for travel.

They kept the tomatoes, lettuce and onions separated and in another bag, plus sauce packets. Kept the buns from getting soggy.

typical mini-whackiness

I'd like to see the rating for a Lotus Elise -- it should peg the fun meter, and it's so damn tiny, it should rate well on the green scale. Cost is no object evidently.

The calculator doesn't have Lotus on the list. On the opposite end, I tried out a GMC Canyon (extended cab pickup). Got a 31 for 193rd out of 197 possible.

ripoff, no clubman

You'd think they'd make something up rather than saying they don't even list their own cars

Okay, it's been a while since I checked on my MCS, but today I got an 81. That was on a "MINI, hardtop, red." No difference between MC or MCS. So, the burning question is, how come a d@mn extended cab pickup is FIFTY (50) points better than an MCS?

I'll bet someone is pulling numbers out of their nether region...

Either that or the people interviewed had never driven one, which is much more likely. I tried a red Cayman, too, and it got a 78. How many people have driven a red Cayman?

Give me a break.

I guess whenever you have to retire.

That would be a pretty sweet gig.

I guess at some point something has to beat the MINI just to make it realistic.

The real question is, why would MINI put themselves in the spotlight this way? What do they have to gain with this kind of ad, when lowly Kias are dozens of points ahead? Are they actually TRYING to discourage sales?

I think you're reading it wrong. That truck was in 193 place out of 197 cars. That means it was one of the worst 5 cars.

Wait... so one of the 5 worst cars has a better 'carfun' footprint than a MINI? I'm really confused now.

The higher the score the better. Therefore, MCS 81> Truck 31

MINI Hardtop in Dark Blue got me number 1 out of 197.

Explanation:
Fun Score: 81
Green Score: 62
=
Carfun footprint:72

Carfun footprint is calculated by adding your Fun Score and Green Score then dividing by 2. So it is basically an average of the two numbers.

I think people are throwing out a lot of numbers and not identifying what exact numbers they are, which is leading to the confusion.

Okay, now I'm confused even more! If you have a Carfun score of 72, then how did you get 1 out of 197? Is there something else to look at? All I can see is a request for make, model, and color. Once I get the "raw" score is there some list I'm supposed to look at to get a "final" score?

When I put the make, model, and color in, I get 81--if that's not 81 out of 198, then what is? Sounds like I'm either 81st best or 117th best.

Yes, there's a lot of confusion, and MINI's calculator isn't helping!

This is your cars score out of a possible 100. At this point they are not ranking the car just giving it a score at out 100 for how fun it is to drive. For the MINI this score is 81.

They then give your car a score out of 100 for how "green" your car is. for the MINI this score is 62.

They then take these two scores and add them giving you 143, then they divide by 2 to get an average of the 2 numbers. This equals 71.5 which they round to 72 and call you carfun footprint.

They then compare your carfun footprint with the 197 other cars that are included in the carfun calculator. So, with a carfun footprint of 72, there is no other car that can achieve a higher score, they all have carfun footprints lower than 72. That is how you are number 1 out of 197.

For example: The Porsche 911
Fun Score = 86 out of a possible 100
Green Score = 44 out of a possible 100
Carfun Footprint = 65 out of possible 100 (this is the score that determines your rank)
Rank is number 4 out of 197 surveyed cars. So, there are only 3 cars that scored better than that and 193 that scored worse. (price is obviously not a factor)

Basically MINI is trying to say that MINIs cars are very fun to drive and at the same time are very friendly to the environment. And that no other car has a better combination of the two.

Hope this helps.
