Auto Up/Down Windows

I've had my Mini for about a month now, and last weekend I had my first semi-long highway trip (about 2 hours). It was on the Garden State Parkway in NJ, and there are quite a few tolls along the way -- the kind where you throw change in the basket and then drive off.

It seemed like half of the time, the auto up/down windows would not work and I would have to hold the switch to get the window to go all the way up or down, and then the other half of the time it worked properly. It seemed like hit or miss each time. I didn't notice anything different that I was doing when it did or did not work, and I didn't use the windows at all (kept them closed) besides at the tolls.

Has anyone had this problem? Should I bring it to the dealer, or is this something simple?

Posted this earlier:

Hold the switch down for about 30 seconds w/window down. Then repeat with window up. If it continues, probably need a new microswitch.

Another variation...

Thanks for all of the good advice.

However, my situation is a little different. My driver's side window isn't dropping at all when I open the door.

I cannot get the window to lower at all, hence not able to do the aforementioned "reset." My passenger-side window works fine.

Any thoughts?

thanks.

Sounds like a bad microswitch. Take to dealer.
