When a Runflat quits...

Wife and daughter where exiting the freeway yesterday afternoon when they came up on a minor calamity. Seems a local contractor was transporting ceramic floor tiles to a job site and lost a portion of his load onto the road. Big honkin' pieces of tile go whizzing all over the road. She catches one in the back passenger tire, and I mean catches one.
When I get there she has a 3 inch triangle shaped piece of tile sticking out of the tire, more in the tire than out. The wife is on the phone with MINI Roadside discussing getting it towed. I thought heck, it is a runflat. So we told MINI Roadside we would call back if we needed help but we could get home. I wiggled the tile around until it came out. It left a 3 inch gash in the tread. You could see INTO the tire. It made "flapping" noises on the ride home, but it made it.
I am impressed!

Wow - yayy for the runflats! Glad it was just the tire that got damaged and not the car....those tiles could have done some other serious damage....

Drove the flapping noise MINI over to NTB and bought 4 BF Goodrich G Force Super Sports 205/50 R16.

MAN DO THEY RIDE GOOD

Ride is not near as harsh. Quiet as a mouse with lots of good grip all around.

Are these runflats? Or just regular tires?

You didn't happen to get the name on the tile truck, did you? I had something similar happen few years ago, but it was the exhaust system falling off instead. Chunk of pipe with a muffler clamp ended up in my tire. The business paid for a new one and the tow.

Yeah, that company should pay for any damages to your vehicle. I know they won't cover rock chips, because you shouldn't be driving that close to one anyway, but a failure to secure and maintain his vehicle is all their fault.

Good to hear something good about runflats, though!

The BFs are not runflats. After much internal and external debate, we went with less cost, longer life, and better ride.
I think the run flats are a solid choice, I just couldn't lay down a grand today.
I did get the name and info on the company. The owner was driving the truck and his wife was riding shotgun. Nice folks, just had a spot of bad luck. Poor lady was sure worried. The entire family is well known in the community as respectable people. Could have been worse for us, plenty of deadbeats out there.

4xAAA I am sorry to hear about the misfortune with the tile and the runflat tire but as long as everyone was safe that is what is important.

Since you did get their information they should claim the damage done to your tire with their insurance company instead of paying everything out of your pocket.

BTW good choice in going with the BFG's as replacement tires.
