Ordered MCS June 23 - coupla questions
For those who know much more than I: I've been tracking my MCS in the owners lounge since it came online, but it's just saying it's in production. What this "build week" that some folks have mentioned? Is 6-7 weeks fairly accurate for delivery? (I know that probably changes often...)
I ordered the 6 speed manual and a friend who has the '07 says that she averages pretty close to 40 mpg around here (mountains of western NC, so hilly driving, not a lot of stop-and-go) and I wondered what kind of mileage others were seeing with the 6 speed S? That is a bit more than the EPA estimate, but I know they've recently lowered all the estimates.
So much to learn - but what fun doing it!!!
mine took about 2 weeks to move out of the in production stage and they usually dont update its progress until the day after its moved on but mine just got to the dealer yesterday so its been about 10 weeks maybe
gas milage i have no clue my 03 got 30mpg tops on the highway and that was crusing at the speed limit wich will rarly happen driving a mini but enjoy the mini life style beware of nose and hand prints on the windows from curious people

Thanks for the warning about the nosy and hands-y ppl
-what a trip! Hope the mileage is higher than that with gas prices...I CAN slow down, I CAN slow down (I'll keep telling myself that...maybe I'll record it and play it over and over in my sleep
)

40mpg is pretty optimistic, imo, I don't think you should expect to get that number unless you are driving 100% highway and you're hypermiling to an significant extent. BTW if she's reading the OBC, it's about 1-2MPG too generous.
Congratulations on your new MINI, btw

You can get more timely information on your MINI from 866-ASK-MINI. The owner's lounge lags behind. After production it can be a week or 2 before you catch a ship, then I don't know how long to the East Coast (2 weeks I'd guess, its 4 weeks to this side). The first gear forum has all the tips on how to obsessively track your MINI.
As for fuel consumption, the R56 (ie the 07 and 08 MINIs) is substantially more efficient than the R53 (ie the previous generation Cooper-S), so comparing it to an 03 isn't going to help. I never managed to get more than 26.4 mpg out of the R53, I've already managed 32 mpg in the R56. I don't seem to be able to get good MPG out of a MINI, for me I expect to be getting mid-20s MPG.
40mpg seems optimistic, and don't believe the OBC, its quite optimistic. The EPA ia reckoning 26/34 that seems quite realisitic, as always YMMV (quite literally).
