Current Mac convert here. Within the last few months there have been several new additions to the house

1. Macbook
2. Macbook Air
3. Time Capsule
4. Extreme Router
5. 3 Ipods

Pretty much a Mac house now.

Hey, Will -- how's the Air? Did you opt for a SSD or a HD?

That would be the Mrs. computer. We got the HD version and she loves it. It is not designed for heavy graphics but for e-mail and composing the standard document and such, it is great.

I opted for a standard macbook and love it.

The Wife gave the OK for me to buy a laptop while I am in the States. Pretty much, carte blanche. Was thinking about an Air, probably not a SSD version. I told her I would at least wait until I got there, to confirm that I really need one. I'd probably slap on an external USB drive, and load XP onto that for those rare occasions when I'd actually need to boot Windows (which I hope is never).

Also got the green light for an Eye-Fi Explorer. So, yeah, some shopping in my future!

Been with Mac since computers were invented. I even started using photoshop when it was owned by Aldus under the name of Aldus didgital Darkroom! Had quite a few macs and ditched my G4 for the new iMac 24" and it is truly amazingly fast. Half the price of my G4 system, and everything seems like ten times more!!! Thank god they got rid of the Scuzzy cable system! Two mini family and two macs.

Well, as long as you don't have a desire to play games, then it is not a bad laptop. If you want more power, then you might want to look at the Macbook or the Pro models.

We got our first Mac in 1988 - twenty years later we've got 3 Macs, 5 iPods and one Mini Cooper S. Gotta agree with minipsych - Macs and Minis seem to go hand in hand.

That's where I know the name! I loved Glider!

Currently I have a new iMac I'm using right now and I have 2 other iMacs in the house, an iBook, a G3 Tower, an Apple Newton, an Apple eMate, 5 iPods.... There is a Dell in the house that belongs to my wife, if the Intel Apples had come out before we bought the Dell it wouldn't be here. The one thing that Steve Jobs did that upset me was canceling the Apple Newton, but the iPod sure helped out my stock!
Well I can now add a 1TB Time Capsule to the list, pretty sweet...

This requires the larger back panel and is not as streamline.
When it was new I used the S video input to attach a DVD player and run movies using the RCA audio inputs for the stereo bose speakers/sub.
Only drawback was the small flat screen. Ran TV off of my cable at home.
Yea I remember they had two different back panels. Enjoy..

Wow, that's funny, it's the first time I've heard someone mention that they were putting an Apple logo on top. I have a PW/PW and have a custom Apple logo on order. In fact, I hope to get it by next week. I figure my car will look like a white Macbook then! I'll post pics after it's installed (gonna have it done professionally). Looking forward to seeing what yours looks like once you get your new MINI.

Right on "fan girl". Apple fan girls unite. haha! All this talk about the Apple logo and I forgot to list my beloved Apple items:

First Mac ever: 2003 17" Widescreen iMac G4. Preordered it and waited with bated breath for them to come out. Pretty sweet for my first Apple machine.
First iPod: 2003 15 gig

Since then:
I recently gave away the iMac to a friend who needed a blessing (poor college student and I wasn't using it anymore since I got a new laptop).

Told my old boss that I wanted a Mac instead of a pc (three years ago) and got a 20" iMac G5. I ended up being the only one in my group with a Mac. Those poor pc saps didn't know what they were missing.

Next I got a Macbook Pro for work (unfortunately have to use a PC to access some drives on our network in my new job so no more Macbook Pro).

Got a black Macbook the week they came out (one day before my b-day) for my personal use.

Early adopter of the iPhone last year (my all-time favorite portable device).

30 GB iPod and 80GB iPod

Still not ready to buy a Macbook Air, but am thinking about it. My Macbook is only two years old and not obsolete (yet) so no hurry... I would like to see what upgrades they do on the Macbook Air, and I want a bigger hard drive. Plus, I bet they will drop the price or add features for the same price (like they usually do) before the end of the year.

I agree. It wasn't just a computer, but a work of art! The nice thing was that it was the Mac that I "switched" with (no turning back now) and it is also now the first Mac for my friend. She LOVES it. It may be 5 years old, but it rocks and she knows it.

Me 2

I've got:

Apple G4 Tower
15" Cinema Display
23" Cinema Display HD
15" PowerBook
24" iMac
2 current iPods (red nano, black video)
3 retired iPods (original 5GB, 10GB, 20GB)

I am planning on the new iPhone when it comes out in July too!

And I agree, Apple would design a car like the MINI.

Hi from a MacAholic!

I'm so glad I found Mac Users on this forum! Hubby and I have been with Apple since 1988 so we have a lot of vintage stuff: Apple IIe, Newton, Mac SE, MacPlus, PowerBook 140, Mac LC II, Quadra, PowerBook 1400, Apple QuickTake Camera, iMac DV Special Edition (running OS X, Firefox, etc.), iBook, MacBook Pro, 2 iPods, Time Capsule. (coming soon-an iPhone) Looking forward to reading more posts re: Mac mods, etc. If Apple made a car it would be a blast ... think of the GUI ... it would be insane!

From what I've heard Windows won't boot off external drives, so if you do want to boot you'll have to partition the internal. Other options are either virtualizing Windows under OSX (using VMWare or Parallels, either off a disk image or Windows partition) or using WINE/Crossover. If what you need to run is a game, booting would be best, but depending on the game the other options may work too.

SSD will help some stuff but not everything, most SSDs in general aren't that great except on the high end (which I'm pretty sure they didn't use), and even then they have their drawbacks. That should be changing within the next year or two though, and while they'll probably still be way behind in $/GB, the price situation should improve too. I'll probably look into smallish one as a boot drive (and keeping a regular drive for /Users) when that happens.

Relatively new to Mac products. Still using PCs at work and home, but looking to buy an Apple product laptop soon. Won over by the 60G Ipod and then the iPhone. Will be upgrading to 3G as soon as they are released. Best phone I have ever owned. Have to carry a Blackberry for work and am constantly forgetting to charge or even turn on!! Apple is the most user friendly product. I want to use my electronics - not be a hardware engineer/programmer to be able to use. Apple rocks!
