First Service

I have approx. 13,000 miles and my 1 year anniversary is in less than 4 weeks. My OBC still says 9,000 miles and a date of "5/2009". Does anyone have this situation. I haven't really worried about it until now. I don't understand the "5/2009" below the mileage until change.

You get basic service at 1 year (oil change, fluid check, tire rotation) if you are under the OBC service mileage. I just got my 1 year service with only 9,000 miles. After the OBC says you need service, they do more stuff, though not exactly sure what....

We have an appointment for next Monday. 20,000 miles for the first year. \

I am curious what they will do?

The OBC will take a lot of things into consideration when calculating either mileage to service or date to service; including driving habits, speeds, distances, revs, etc. Now-a-days, synthetic oils like the ones in MCS and MC can go longer without being changed. In the past, with mineral oils, it was advised to change oil and filter every 3000 miles. Personally, I still like doing this; every 6 months or 3000 miles, whatever comes first. This is recommended if you intend on keeping the car for a while! The first scheduled service by the OBC will include oil change, oil filter change, pollen filter change, break cleaning and revision, and revision and top off of various fluids levels.

You do. There is an indicator light for each system on the car. No lights means no problems. Once the mileage or time come up and you are due for service, the indicator in the middle of the tach will let you know. You can check it any time, by accessing the service menu with the turn signal button!

Go by the calendar year, not the readout on the tach when you start your car. The dealership will do the first service (not real involved...an oil change and general poking about) on a calendar basis. Of my friends w/ R56, almost all of their cars still read around 8K miles at one year...based on that I don't recommend waiting for the miles to count down.

I went for 1 year service at about 14,000 miles and the OBC still said I had 10K until service. They were happy to change the oil at 1 year. I don't trust an OBC that will let me wait 2 years before service.

My car has a about 7,500 miles on it and the OBC says 10,000 and another year to go. However, my year is up. I haven't gone in for my free oil change because I just did one myself and rotate my own tires. I plan to stop by the service dept sometime tomorrow to see if I really need to bring it to them for the oil change. I called last week, but was told that the service dept. was on a "work stoppage." Yup, they were on strike.

I got my 1st service today. It has been 1 year since I bought it and there is no way I could miss my oil change as I got a call from my MA and an e-mail from the dealer telling me to bring it in. I got my oil change and a new set of wiper blades all around.

This is the 1st time I have been back to the dealer since I bought it other than the rallies they put on from time to time.

Another interesting thing is, I looked through there book of vehicles they have on the lot and they did not have one single justacooper to sell in stock.

Is it possible to request to get your oil changed before 1 year and before the OBC says you need it?

wouldn't surprise me one bit, I thought it might be neat to switch brands & work for Mini now that I'd finally got one of my own.... but they're an hourly only and hire UTI grads, which basically means very low pay & inexperienced kids. I wouldn't trust a UTI grad w/ my car for anything more then an automated software update

Looking in the service manual it looks like the first oil change/service should also include checking the brakes & handbrake, checking the A/C, changing the cabin filter, & reseting the service reminder.
the 2nd oil change should add spark plugs & air filter.

I brought mine in at one year and all they did was the oil/filter (I paid for tire rotation). That was at 15k, a month ago. Now it's got 3k to go on the OBC for the first official service. I guess they do the cabin filter and the oil again eh? Don't worry, they put more than enough oil in mine to last me 4 months!

I would call Miniusa & try to get an official answer on what's supposed to be done, after all, they're paying for it.
