R56 Pictures Required - Clearbra
Pictures Required - Clearbra
Hi - I'm just about to get a clearbra fitted and really wanted to see examples / photos (in particular on a British Racing Green Mini) to see how it looks.
From the quotes I've got - they put the clear coat protection only on a portion of the hood (I originally thought they did the whole hood, but thats not the case?).
Please state in your post w/pictures which areas you had done (e.g. hood, bumper, etc)
Thanks!

I can't take pictures becasue I am traveling, you wouldn't be able to see much anyway. The coverage I selected was every forward facing area (hood, mirrors, bumper, a-pillar and roof) as well as the rear bumper (hatch ledge) and bottom of the hatch becasue you always have your hands on it. I got all of this and the windows tinted for $790.
You could get the whole hood covered, my installer said it was around $539 for that alone. I went with the coverage that goes above the hood intake (and included the intake). The Mini dealer tried to sell me a similar product but the coverage was minimal. It will also be minimal is you get the cheapest 3M hood coverage. It went below the intake if I recall correctly. Here is the site of the installer I use, you can check the patterns and prices there atleast.

Get it, you will be happy.
I have it on my AB, it's pretty much invisible. It's on the upper nose, intake, lower nose, and rear-view mirrors.
You can see the line if the surface is dirty/dusty (like with pollen), but it does not look bad (very unobtrusive). Beats the heck out of dinged-up paint IMO.
First pic is what it actually looks like:

This one is distorted with photoshop -- I tried to accentute where the clearbar is.

Thanks guys for the info and the pics - that really helps me get an idea....it's true you barely can notice it and it is worth having than not.
I'm in Toronto, Ontario and got a quote just for the hood portion and it was $245....to do the bumper (bottom bit) as well he said it would just be double. Does this sound too much?
Does the bottom part of the bumper really need to be done? The mirrors I'm not too worried about as the white plastic covers to replace wouldn't be much.

I have it on my BRG-- pics in my gallery, and you can hardly see it, unless as the previous poster said, the car is really dirty. But, it's a pretty unobtrusive line even then.
I did mine through the dealer, so it was little more than I would have liked to have paid, but I didn't want to drive it three+ hours home without protection. I have the standard front and 18 inches up the hood.

I have about 100 pics of my CR Cooper on this board. Only in one can you see the line of the clearbra. And it's the pic I took really close from the side, showing the water not beading after stripping the wax off with P21S. If you look carefully, you can see the line....

I have it on the bottom 18 inches of the bonnet, the entire front bumper (except chrome), the door edges, inside the door handle cups, on the rear bumper step, and there's one around the gas cap that I dislike and keep meaning to remove but never get around to it. I don't have a single photo where the line is visible.
Especially with a dark color, you'll be glad you got it. You'll get many chips over time otherwise and on a dark color they are very, very obvious.
Just picked my BRG MCS from the dealer yesterday and had a clear bra put on it today. It is 30" up the bonnet and includes the front bumper, headlights, fog lights, door edges and side mirror caps. The cost for this was $400.00 and really worth it. By the way, the dealer wanted $1000.00. Ugh!!
We are having the clear bra and some other stuff done to our '08 MCS. We had an '03 and did not have the clear bra on it. It was not good
We had so many chips it was terrible! We are making sure our bra is on before we even leave the dealership!!

I didn't purchase mine at the dealer, but instead copied down their vendor and called him directly. At first I had the entire bonnet, front bumper, A pillars, door handle cups, mirrors and area just below the gas cap done for $750 installed. The guy that did mine was an artist...even shaved his arms so no hair would fall off and get trapped under the film. It looks amazing, and I am so glad that I had the whole bonnet and bumper done. You can't even see it, and there are no 'panty lines' as he called it.
About a month later I had him do my Xenon lenses as well as my fogs and front turn signals. This keeps them from getting that hazy scratched look over time. I have a PS Cabrio, and it looks great...no difference in the shine at all. It is VERY important that you keep the film clean and protected as over time it can yellow or stain if you don't. I use Plexus all the time..even when dirty (which is another benefit of getting the whole bonnet done) as you can just wipe it clean. Pro-Tect Films (www.pro-tectfilm.com) sells a special polish and sealant that removes any yellowing and makes it even more shiny. Had mine about 1.5 years and it still looks great!

My clearbra is put over the sport stripe but I'm pretty sure it can be done either way. Comes with a lifetime guarantee from LLumar. I'm very pleased.
I have the clear bra on the front of my BMW 300i and haven't regretted it in the nearly 8 years I've owned it. It washes and wears very well. Will likely get it on my MINI when it arrives next month as well.
We checked with our dealer and they have a company that is doing the whole package for $600 something. Our MA actually said that they are better then having it done at the dealership, because that is what they do.
You might check with your dealer or do a search on line. You also might check to see if there is a thread for a local club in your area. They would probably be able to give you the best options.
Good Luck!
