In my first post I stated I am near 100,000 miles and ready for a new vehicle. I really have enjoyed the SRT, but I am ready for something different. I am not trying to offset purchase price with mileage savings if I were I would buy a used motorcycle instead. I am buying a new car and would like to increase the mpg I will be getting also.

i say go for it, great gas mileage and super fun to drive. Also the resale is fantastic on the car, american cars eat **** on re-sale unfortunately for us.

Actually, that's exactly what I did, albeit the trade in had 125k miles on it. But, I bought a used 3 year old mini, and from the depreciation curve I estimate that when I sell it in 5 years (if I do), the $$$ difference is about even with the gas money I'll be saving, given the rise curve in gas prices. So yeah, it's definitely possible to pay for your MINI with gas money.

Now to the MCS vs MC, I totally agree with the MCS choice. You'll keep essentially the same performance, with better gas mileage to boot. The loaner I drove got 29mpg in mixed driving, and I did not stay off the turbo nor did I drive slow on the highway. It's well worth the investment imo.

You might want to put it on autotrader or craigslist. When we ordered wife's car I sold the old one locally and got about twice what the dealer offered. I was dumb enough to trade in when I bought my MINI, and got about half what it was worth (it was a sebring conv). I should have sold the old one myself, but the second MINI was an impulse buy. Beware of buying on impulse!
