R56 2 pulls on the handle to open the doors from inside?
2 pulls on the handle to open the doors from inside?
I know some more questions will come up down the road regarding the "MINIness" of the R56 MCS but this one is kind of baffling.
This is the first car I have ever owned that you have to pull on the inside door handle to open the door:1st pull unlocks,2nd pulls opens.Granted I am now use to that but I was wondering if there was a way to change it to 1 pull to unlock and open the door from inside?
Thanks.

If I remember correctly my BMWs did that too. It's the autolocking of the doors that does this - you can program the doors not to lock - look in the manual...page 22.

Ditto - if you have the car programmed to auto-lock the doors when you drive off, you will either need to hit the unlock switch (center console) once you stop or pull the handle twice. I got tired of passengers trying to rip the handle off so I disabled the auto-lock feature. If I'm somewhere I feel I need to have locked doors while driving, I simply hit the lock switch...

^^Ahh that explains it the auto lock feature. Thanks for the fast replies everyone.
True the auto lock feature works once 10 mph is reached but it is a handy option as I was use to that on my former '06 Mustang GT but that unlocked and opened the doors at the same time when pulling on the inside door handles.Which prompted my original question.

You don't have to pull the door handle twice. Just use the toggle switch to unlock the doors first.
There was a very long thread on this topic where people aired their frustration with this feature. You might want to search for it.

I no longer have my doors auto lock. The double pull thing is really annoying to me. Mini really needs to provide an auto unlock option, the I would have my doors set to auto lock.
Thank you for the additional posts and comments.
I should have realized that it was a source of frustration to other owner's too and should have ran a search in the beginning.
BTW I did turn off the auto lock this morning but for some reason the inside door handle still needed to be pulled twice. When I have passengers in my MINI Cooper S I will just unlock the doors with the toggle switch.

I wish it has the auto-unlock option, too. On my BMW with after market alarm, I've programmed it to lock automatically (after the ignition is on for 20 sec), and unlock automatically when the ignition is turned off. It will also re-lock the doors after I exited the car and closed the doors. I think MINI should at least have the auto-unlock function, although I'm getting used to the double pull action.
