R56 Real World Cooper S mileage
Homage to Ross Perot

Lifetime mileage hand calculated for my 2008 MINI. EDIT: Overall average was 31.1 MPG. BC numbers were always about 2 MPG off on the optimistic side. Full size image is in my gallery. Most of my driving is suburb commute averaging 32-35 MPH per tank. High MPG spikes are longer trips...no highway but long back road romps. I drive pretty briskly, but no where near the maniac level.
I only have two fill ups on my 2011 and my average so far is 27.8 MPG. This seems low to me considering that MINI improved the efficiency with the engine updates. I do notice that the mileage dips in the winter time so I'm looking for improvements into the summer. I think I will start recording the average MPH per fill up just to have another data point.

I've been tracking my mileage on Fuelly.com for about 10 months. I've logged over twelve thousand miles and thirty-five fill ups. My average mpg is 31.3 combined local and highway driving. I realize you were looking for 2011 mileage but with a few posts, this might be an interesting comparison.
If you go to the Fuelly.com website, you can sort by vehicle and year. There are five 2011 Mini S listed and their mileage averages between 26.4 and 30.7 mpg. There is more information there, but you can check it out.

Same here if I drive like a normal person. (mine is per OBC though) Since I drive with a heavy foot, those numbers tend to drop to 28 hwy and 25 city. (again, OBC)
Mine is a JCW with a Alta Stage III tune.

2011 MCS 6-speed I get 24mpg 100% LA city driving. Hand calculation. My 2 previous 300hp BMWs got 14mpg driving the same routes, the same way. I've always lived only 3 or so city miles from work so that's a lot of city stop and go. Haven't taken it on a trip yet so don't know the highway number.
I reset my OBC just before a 65 mile highway run this past weekend. Once on the highway, I set cruise control at 68mph, and the OBC never fell below 40mpg. That's the best I've ever seen on my car. Typical city driving, hand calculated, gives me 20-22mpg usually.
yep that was drivin 70 to and from okc - dallas with some stop and go construction and a head wind. and no i wasnt draftin any trucks
blew my mind

I'm betting that the Hwy driving was on nice flat smooth roads. I've got a bit more than 2000 miles on my 2011 MCS and I am amazed to get 32 mpg cruising at 80 mph indicated (act. 77ish mph). (hand calculated)
I have a 2009 MCS that I got in Nov of 2008.
My OBC says my average speed is about 36 mph (that sounds about right); I drive down a state road to work that has varying speed limits. You can go up to about 55 mph or so but there are some traffic lights to mix it up. I guess therefore you could say I mostly do non-highway driving.
I average reliably 32 to 33 mpg. That's calculated by me, not the OBC which is about 1.5 miles low in its calculation. That's also with summer blend fuel and my performance run-flats (in winter I have my snow run-flats and with winter fuel blend I go down to about 29 mpg or so).
I don't do prolonged highway driving (no need to do it for work) but I did take a trip that was about 2 hrs of highway driving up and 2 hrs back (probably averaged about 65-70 mph for the most part) and I averaged about 38 mpg. That was when the car was only a few months old, too. I'm very happy with my mpg, since it's better than the sticker estimates were for my year MCS. I'm getting base MINI mileage in some cases.
I have a 6 speed manual and ALWAYS drive in sport mode. I do use the a/c a lot, too.
edited to add: I am very conscientious about checking tire pressure, btw. Makes a big difference!

I am getting about the same on my 2011 Clubman S automatic, non-Sport mode driving. I am really disappointed in those numbers.
I have a non-S but my MPG isn't much better. I have a convertible which is rated at a lower MPG than the hardtop, and it's automatic which lowers the MPG rating even more. In the city I'm getting between 23 and 25mpg. The car is rated at 27/35 and I'm not even getting 27.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed too. The Mini's mpg rating is supposed to be comparable to a Honda Fit and my girlfriend gets about 37mpg in her Fit.
Highway I can get in the mid to upper 30s and on a 250 mile roundtrip drive on long straight roads with almost no stops and driving about 50 mph I managed around 40mpg or so, so I know the potential is there but the city driving just completely kills the gas mileage.
I'm jealous of all the people who are managing 30+ mpg in the city with their S's which are supposed to get lower mpg than the non-S. I'd love to know what city!

Our '07 averaged about 31MPG. No hard data, just a running average in my head at each fillup over a 3 year period.
Our "new" '09 seems to be running about 32-33MPG. I've only had it for 3 weeks so I haven't got a lot of fill ups in it yet.
Neither are from the onboard computer, just miles driven divided by gallons pumped.
Normal highway speeds are 70+, and that's all I'll admit too
. The cars were both stock with no mods. Gas is almost always Shell or Mobil, mid-high grade.
We live in a somewhat rural farming community, so rocketing around on the backroads has to be tempered a bit. Lots of blind curves, with farm machinery in and crossing the roads. Sometimes teams of Oxen. ( I think I'd rather hit a tractor than one of those teams!)

Seriously, there's more to life than MPG's or instead of an S we all would have bought a 50mpg Prious and be posting on their hyper-mileage sites.I will hand calc my 2008 diesel truck and the 2010 MINI on trips and that's it (18/20mpg and 33/35mpg respectively). Around town and commuting are what they are, rather not know.

I picked up my new 2011 MCS on 4-23-2011. Since then I've filled up 5 times tracked on fuelly.com. Currently with combined city/hwy driving with the A/C on I'm averaging 28.6 mpg. OBC on the current tank displays 28.8
Best mileage so far (tracked on Fuelly.com) was a trip from Richmond, VA to Washington D.C. whereas I averaged 30.8 mpg.
I rarely drive in sport mode and average around 75 mph highway speeds to and from work. Commute one way to work is about 25 miles (20 of which is highway).

Like gregsmini: I use www.fuelly.com to keep a running record of the mileage for my car: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/aaonms/jcw
As odd as it may sound, I find I get better mileage in town with mixed highway/city driving than I do on all Interstate runs.
Once I exceed 75 mph indicated (72 mph per GPS), the mileage falls off very rapidly for any increase in speed.
Guess it is true in my case: Time (speed) is money as it costs me more to go faster.

I'm a happy camper here
I have 2200 miles on the odometer since I bought her on 28 April 11.
Hand calculated mpg average over all tanks = 31.7
Average speed = 36.8.
Best tank= 34.6 mpg (a mostly highway trip down from Tacoma to Portland)
I'm more than satisfied with the mpg on my 6 speed manual.
The miles per smiles quotient over my 34 mpg FIT cannot be measured.

Mine's a 2004 S w/ Alta cold air pack, 15% pulley, synthetic oil, Iridium sparks, 46,000 miles. It likes hot weather, flat roads, 68-70 mph. It can get upwards of 46mpg! I averaged 42mpg coming back from Texas for over 1300 miles so I knew I wasn't going crazy. The dealer said no way possible but w/ the pulley, cold air pack and plugs she really has a sweet spot at 68-70. Mpg really starts dropping off anything above 72mph
mine is a 2011 mcs..i have 1100 miles on her now, and i drive mostly sport mode, manual 6 speed, average speed says 30...im consistantly getting 33 to 34mpg via the computer, and via gas fill up calulations. id say its 70-30 hwy-cty percentage...and by highway, usually rolling at 80mph...came from a fj cruiser, which i got 20mpg....to say im happy is an understatement!!!

Reviving the revival, so to speak.
My '10 MCSa, now that I have a year and a half on it, yields some avarages;
Over all, but lots of LA fwy in the mix - about 26 mpg (hand calc, not obc)
All hwy to and from Arizona last spring, just saw the bottom side of 30 mpg. (also hand-calc, not obc)
More city driving, and the mpg goes down to 22 - 23 mpg, per the obc.
