2009 MINI Coopers? 50th Anniversary of the Mini?

hello, does anyone know when the 2009's for the cooper S. will be out? Also, is it true that 2009 is the 50th anniversary of the mini?? will the 2009's feature anything new in the cars?

The 2008 R56 coopers started production the first week of December 2007. The earliest folks got their cars was very early January. Chances are that this is when the 2009 R56 models will be out also. I have no idea whether they will feature anything special. About the only thing that is "special" is the factory JCW R56.

I just asked my dealer yesterday, and was told that the 09's will be available in November or December 08.

Does anyone know when we will hear about what's new for `09 (price, options, etc)? Im wondering if prices are going to shoot up - if so will I know in time to still order an `08???

We are thinking of ordering this fall, but Im not sure I want to wait until November/December to place my order... then again I dont want to regret not waiting if the 50 anniversary one comes with something super cool.

Here's another thought:

Motoringfile, 4/29 - Speaking of the the July USA JCW launch, Gabe says, "The '09 model year should start in late August for the US market." He was answering a question as to how the July JCW launch would affect the rest of the Cooper line (the questioner excluded the MCS). Not the epitomy of clarity, perhaps; but Gabe is usually very well informed. If you want to have a look, this exchange is in the "Comments" section of the story.

it'd be 50th anniv of the mini, not the coopers, so imho any special models would only be appropriate to the mini one. what i'd like to see would be the future MC50

bump, still looking for an excuse to trade in our '08 MCS for an '09 JCW
a 50th Anniversary edition would be a great excuse.

btw, love the Royal Grey, I wish we'd been able to get our Mini ordered back in '06 for a Royal Grey & Silver MCS

In the US, the Mini (classic) was only sold in the USA from 1960 thru 1967. Thus 50th AE would be 2010.

VW did the same with the GTI. GTI first came to NA in 1983, thus they launched a 20thAE in 2003. Mean while in Germany already had the 25th AE GTI (in 2001-2002 I forgot the exact year)

Actually, the first Mini, the BMC Morris, was released in August 1959.

John Cooper's involvement began shortly after the BMC MM was released, and in September 1961 the first Morris (and Austin) Mini Coopers appeared on the scene. Two years later, in 1963, the Mini Cooper S made its debut

So the 50th anniversaries are 2009 for the Mini, 2011 for the Mini Cooper, and 2013 for the Mini Cooper S.

yes and i'm not disagreeing with that the 50th AE for mini would be 2009 in Europe (but not in the US) since the first year the mini was introduced in the US was 1960.

I look at it from global perspective (1959). yours is more localized (1960). both can co-exist harmoniuosly

totally agree

I kind of wish they would follow the US date and release a US specific 50AE since I'm not ready to buy another car this year

Yes, this is the 50th anniversary of the Mini.....period. No, I have heard of no special offerings. MINI United will be held at Silverstone in the UK and that will be special. Also, MotoringFile has some anniversary grill badges. I am doing my own magnetic (or stickers, can't decide) 50th anniversary graphics.

they will probably offer a special edition in silver. even though gold is in the german flag they favor silver. they should get rid of the fold and have red black and silver. and for 2010 in the usa all colors except silver will not be made instead they will offer 10 shades of silver. heh even gm is offering more silver colours silver moss is not bad to be honest. even though i am gettin all silvered out.

Looks like MINI will be releasing two 50th Anniversary edition MINI this year, which will include special interiors and wheels. They will also only be available in specific colors: one model in Pure Silver, the other in Hot Chocolate.
