I usually tell "those" people
1) rent "The Italian Job"
2) Take 2 shots of some alcoholic beverage
3) Call Me and I'll take you for a "real" ride

Never Fails

Ok, so it's a clown car that does 150+.

I can live with that.

Congrats on the new mini.

As to the comments 1 ride will change their minds

Check out the Cinciminis club if you live in the area and want to hang out and learn the best places to take those people for their conversion trip.

Don't forget about the part where she lost 50% of the value of the car in 1-2 years. Or that the loan would always be worth far more than the vehicle. I am so done w/ buying American cars. Never again.

Yea... My Mini is coming in about a month... but most of the comments I get are just limited to "cute car."
Then again... it's for my wife and most of the people I know are auto-xers or BMW owners.
Which is why I also get the occassional, "Keeping it in the family, huh?"

Which is much better than the responses I got when I told people my wife was contemplating a Miata. lol. (Don't get me wrong.. it's also a great handling car)

Yes, but Ford has improved the structure of that pickup in later models. So, recent models would fare better in that crash test.

I hate these chick car and gay car comments. I was in a marketing class and we were discussing brands the professor asked what kind of person drives a mini cooper, the guy behind me said "a ***".

I haven't gotten that response yet...though the girls in my office say it's a cute car. And truthfully...it is a friendly looking car. But I don't think its a chick car. Its no more of a Chick Car than the GTI or Civic.

Anyways...People who say its a tin box have never sat in one, or even driven one. It is by far one of the agile and responsive cars on the road. I like that Mercades commercial that stresses accident avoidance. If ever there was a car created to avoid an accident, a Mini would certainly rank high on the list. Not to mention the amount of airbags built into this car. My 2001 Durango doesn't have nearly the amount of airbags my MCS does.

People have the perception that a bigger car is "safer"...Which is true when you get into an accident. Like driving an SUV and swerving at high speed and rolling over. Or SUV's following too close to other vehicles and plowing into them because their poor brakes were overwhelmed by the over 2 tons of mass they were asked to stop.

I have nothing against SUV drivers or their gas guzzling ilk...I in fact have one...but don't judge the MCS without first driving one.

People do seem to think it's a chick car... I lost count of how many people told me it was the perfect car for me when I was talking about ordering one. But now, every guy I know wants to take her for a drive. I tell them to go buy their own.

Nick - out of morbid curiosity ... has your marketing professor ever run a business or held a position in sales?

Remember that people like us NEED people like them. SOMEONE has to clean our tables, ask us if we'd "like fries with that", pick up our trash, etc. And, it might as well be that ignorant jerk behind you ...

It's not a MINI, but this video does a good job illustrating how a small, modern car with a good crash rating fares against an older, bigger, heavier car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3ygYUYia9I

My '08 BRG/w MCS is on the way and everyone I've told thus far think it'll be awesome and haven't tried to poke fun. Some do bring up the "cute" aspect, but I can live with that. For any tossers I do encounter, I plan to memorize some good British insults to tell them to bugger off with. Bloody pillocks.

WOW! Thanks for posting this. Very cool. Amazing what modern engineering can accomplish.

After seeing that I was curious how the MINI fares. It looks like it does pretty well:

I didn't see any for the R56 but I'm sure they are even safer.

Coming out of a 335 BMW I can say this. I have had more women ask me "Is that your new car" "Can I drive it" "Will you take me for a ride" than I can count. My age group women and younger women. This is with one week in the car. Single, never married, no kids and middle aged.....Call it what you like. I could care less. In fact, I wish I would have had a Mini years ago.
