R56 How is your MPG?
What is your average speed and is that highway or mixed? I have 2000 miles on my MC and I get ~ 32-33 mpg driving betwen 80 and 85 mph
You have to remember the Mini is about as aerodynamic as a brick. At a drag coefficient of 0.32 (0.35 for the S), the gas mileage will drop like a rock the faster you drive.
Romi has consistently gotten between 40 and 43 MPG using freeway speeds between 70 and 65, repsectively. Gas mileage will become exponentually worse as your speed reaches passed a certain level.
NOTEL I am recalling those two Cd numbers from some time ago, so I might not be accurate, but I believe it is very close.

Yeah if I were to drive at 65 mph I'd probably try to kill myself.....
- For us up here in NY (us yankees) time is money. (insert gas mileage / price per gallon joke here)

I'm not kidding. That's how they spelled the name on the billboard! They had THE cheapest gas in town all the time.
Dang I just found out that here in Gainesville Fl , the reason that the gas has fallen down to $3.78 is because the gas is dilluted to 10% volume ethanol. I drove around town thinking that it was that station, sure enough stickers on all the pump stating 10% ethanol. Has anyone else seen this? Yes by volume the city is getting more gas now, but drivers are filling up more with less mileage to the tank.

08 MCSa, AC 30% 27.5mpg non-sport vs AC+sport(manual mode)100% 24.8mpg. But 90% of my time is in NYC traffic jam or slow freeway, <10% travel @60mph (My average speed reading is 20.0mph :-s).
On interstate, it's around 35mpg @ 75mph with AC, 6th gear.

the greatest[ or worst depending on your outlook] boondoggle perpetrated on us in many years is this ethanol from corn bs. lousier mileage, and it has raised food, liquor, and beer prices to boot.
they should be using hemp oil instead.

I used to average about 36 mpg on I-75 between FL and Atlanta in the R56. That was at 70 mph or so. On the way back from MITM I swear we got over 40 a couple of times. I think that was a combination of slower speeds caused by bumpy roads and runflats (about 60 mph or so). With the cabrio, we only get 32 or so on the I-75 route.
Up in Robbinsville, NC, at the Dragon this year, a gas station operator told me he wouldn't pump any premium with ethanol because the biker guys who come up there don't want it.
Could be our better mileage out west was due to no ethanol. I understand they're not adding it in Colorado.
Concur with the observations about the OBC. It usually reads higher that actual.

Hi all! I have had my 07 MCS 6-speed for 6 months now, and I am curious about how everyone is coming along with your MPG? I checked mine yesterday, it is about 26 MPG. Considering that from the sticker it is 32/38 city and highway, does that mean I am not driving my car properly?
What advices can you give me to get higher MPG?

I'm up to about 28.6 average on my 2007 MCS. Average Highway speed is about 80. It's also probably 70% highway driving.
This has seemed to actually go up since I first got it, but my driving habits have gotten worse (or better depending on how you look at it), much quicker in getting up to that 80.

I drive what I would describe as suburban miles. Range of 15 - 45 mph roads with small stretch of 65 mph highway every day round trip about 25-30 miles.
First tank August (dealer tank): unknown type of gas, unknown if filled to first "click".
obc- 29.8 mpg
calc.- 29.3 mpg
Drive style: Very carefull with rpm. Shifted up around 2500 rpm which droped to 1200. Thought I was getting most efficiency by keeping rpm as low as possible. Tried to keep rpm between 1700 and 2700 range.
Second tank September: Shell 93 octane, filled to first click:
obc - 33.5 mpg
calc. - 32 mpg
Drive style: Allowed rpm to rev between 3100-3400 before up shift. Dropped to 2200 after shift and tried to keep rpm between 2200 and 3200 range.
Result: Gain of approx. 2.5 mpg on second tank
Theory after two tanks-
If your going for optimun lileage, use good gas (I'll try 91 octane next time to see if there is any difference with 93) and drive normally, don't be too conscience of rpm. Let the car tell you when to shift. Don't shift too soon or at too low of rpm it will use more gas because you wind up pressing more on pedal to keep speed up.

Amazing Cybergypsy, good for you. I haven't taken an interstate trip yet but when I do I hope to get the same. At 33.5 obc mostly city driving for me I think its possible.
Congratulations.

That trip shows only 7.0 miles on the tank. Could have been more than 50% downhill on a freeway. One needs to make a round trip on a relatively flat freeway 250 miles each way to get an accurate mpg value.
Not everyone uses the trip meter as a gas gauge.
I'm over here in Hawaii.
My wife's '08 MCS is used for about 95% city driving and 5% highway.
Hasn't been driven hard because still in break-in period.
Got about 910 miles on the car so far in a period of about 4.5 months.
We both share the car, but she drives it predominantly.
We get usually 15.5-16.5 mpg.
I tried resetting the mpg back at around 200 miles... the number comes up the same.
BTW.. her car's an auto tranny and about all the time, it's just been driven in regular D and not sport mode or manual mode.
I was hoping to get a lot better gas mileage out of this car when I bought it compared to the M3...
It's only about 4-5 mpg better... that's it! :(
Could it be because we're always blasting the A/C since it's so damn hot here???
